Chapter 4 of Sati Katha — Daksha's Yajna and Insult. Daksha organizes a grand yajna, in which he does not invite Shiva and insults him.

Daksh's Sacrifice and Humiliation

After the marriage of Sati and Shiva, there was an atmosphere of joy in Kailash. Sati had found Shiva in the form of Parvati, and Shiva had found his better half in Sati. However, destiny had something else in store, and this happiness was not to last forever. The fire of malice towards Shiva still smoldered in Daksh's heart, and he was ready to seize any opportunity to belittle Shiva.

Organization of the Sacrifice by Daksh Prajapati

Daksh Prajapati organized a grand sacrifice. This sacrifice was not only a display of his power and grandeur but also a conspiracy to humiliate Shiva. There was an atmosphere of celebration all around. Invitations were sent to gods, sages, and Gandharvas. The sacrificial altar was decorated wonderfully. Brahmins were chanting mantras, and the fragrance of aromatic incense filled the air. Daksh Prajapati himself was overseeing the sacrifice, a look of deceitful satisfaction on his face.

Thoughts were running through Daksh's mind, "Today I will show that ascetic Shiva that he has no place in the society of gods. Sati made a big mistake by rebelling against me. She too will realize her mistake."

Sati's Infatuation and Going to the Sacrifice Uninvited

In Kailash, Sati heard that her father, Daksh Prajapati, was organizing a grand sacrifice. She saw that all the gods and sages were going to participate in this sacrifice. Naturally, her heart also yearned to meet her father and sisters. She had affection for her father and a strong desire to meet him arose. She asked Lord Shiva for permission to go to the sacrifice, but Shiva explained to her that it is not appropriate to go to someone's house without an invitation, especially when the inviter is an adversary.

Sati's heart was filled with curiosity. She felt that there should be no need for an invitation to go to her father's house. Overcome by filial love, she ignored Shiva's warning. Lord Shiva tried to stop Sati, but Sati's infatuation was so strong that she could not stop herself. This act of Sati was going to cause a great calamity, a consequence that could not even be imagined. Shiva knew that Sati's humiliation at Daksh's sacrifice was certain, but he could not bind Sati. He knew that Sati's destiny was pulling her towards that sacrifice.

Humiliation at the Sacrifice and Future Consequences

When Sati reached her father's sacrifice, she saw that all the gods were present there, but her father did not welcome her. Daksh Prajapati looked at her with contempt and spoke harsh words about Shiva. Sati was deeply saddened to see that her father had insulted Lord Shiva. Hearing the harsh words of Daksh Prajapati, Sati was filled with anger. She could not tolerate the insult to her husband. Now, Sati faced a path that led to destruction. The fire of humiliation blazed in her heart, and she knew how terrible the consequences would be. In the next chapter, we will see how Sati endures that humiliation and what the outcome is.

Summary of Chapter 4: This chapter depicts the organization of the sacrifice by Daksh Prajapati and the humiliation of Shiva. Sati goes to her father's sacrifice uninvited, where she is insulted. This incident leads to Sati's self-immolation, showing that even in love and devotion, discretion is necessary – otherwise, destruction is inevitable.
