Chapter 3 of the Matsya Avatar Katha — The Boat, The Deluge, and The Protection. Manu builds a boat, gathers all living beings, and protects them from the waters of the deluge.

The Boat, The Deluge, and The Protection

Lord Vishnu's appearance as a colossal fish filled Manu with awe and reverence. He absorbed that divine aura into his heart and prepared to face the impending calamity. As commanded by Matsya Bhagavan, Manu immediately began preparations for rescue.

Building the Boat

Following the words of the giant fish, Rishi Manu set about building a large and sturdy boat. He knew that this boat would not only save his life but also the continuity of life on Earth depended on it. Skilled carpenters were summoned. Working day and night, Manu had a vast and wondrous boat constructed, strong enough to withstand the coming catastrophic flood. While building the boat, Manu had only one thought in his mind – to obey Lord Vishnu's command and save every living being.

"O Lord," Manu prayed with folded hands, "grant me the strength to obey Your command and save life on this Earth. This task is beyond my power, but I believe it will be possible with Your grace."

Gathering Life

Once the boat was built, Manu, as instructed by Matsya Bhagavan, began collecting all kinds of creatures and seeds of plants. Birds, animals, insects, and plant seeds were carefully gathered and stored safely in the boat. Manu ensured that every species was represented, so that life could flourish again on Earth after the deluge. This task was extremely difficult, but Manu completed it with complete devotion and sincerity. The boat became a miniature world, representing all forms of life.

Slowly, the water level began to rise. Clouds rumbled in the sky, and torrential streams of rain began to fall on the Earth. Rivers and streams overflowed, and in no time, the entire area was submerged. Chaos erupted all around. People ran helter-skelter to save their lives, but no one could withstand the destructive power of the water.

Just then, Manu launched the giant boat into the water. The boat swayed but then stabilized. He placed all the creatures and seeds in safe places within the boat.

"O Narayana, protect! Protect!" Manu cried out. "This world is Your creation, save it from destruction!"

At that very moment, Manu had a divine experience. He felt as if Lord Vishnu Himself was with him, protecting him. Peace and patience filled his heart.

The Deluge and Protection

The water level of the deluge continued to rise. The boat battled the waves, but Manu did not give up. Remembering Lord Vishnu, he steered the boat skillfully. There was water everywhere. The Earth seemed to have sunk into the ocean. Yet, Manu's boat floated safely, as if Lord Vishnu Himself were protecting it. The boat floated on the water for a long time. There was devastation all around, but life in the boat was safe. Manu, remembering God, prayed that He would deliver the Earth from this deluge. It was a terrifying sight, but Manu's faith remained unwavering. His devotion and patience gave him the strength to face this difficult situation.

Now, as the waters of the deluge will slowly begin to recede, Lord Matsya will reappear and guide the boat to a safe place. Manu eagerly awaits that moment. He knows that the path ahead will be difficult, but under God's guidance, he will become the foundation of a new creation.

Summary of Chapter 3: This chapter describes Manu's construction of the boat, the collection of living beings, and the safety of the boat during the deluge. It shows that with unwavering faith in God and obedience to His commands, one can be saved from even the greatest calamities. True devotion protects us.
