Kurma Avatar Story – Chapter 5: Amrit and Lessons

Amrit and the Lesson

In the previous chapter, the steadfast support of the Kurma Avatar kept the Mandara mountain stable, allowing the churning of the ocean by the gods and demons to continue. With tireless effort and the grace of Lord Vishnu, the moment everyone had eagerly awaited had arrived – the emergence of Amrit. The hearts of both gods and demons were filled with hope and greed, knowing that this Amrit was their path to immortality.

The Rise of the Amrit Kalash

The pace of the ocean churning intensified. Vasuki Naga's pain was increasing, but the aspiration for Amrit kept him motivated. Then, a divine light emerged from the depths of the Ksheer Sagar. Gradually, that light manifested as a radiant kalash, filled with Amrit. An ethereal aura surrounded the kalash, mesmerizing all who beheld it. The faces of the gods lit up with joy, while the eyes of the demons gleamed with avarice. With the appearance of Amrit, the apprehension of war between the gods and demons intensified.

Devraj Indra addressed the gods, saying, "This is the moment we have all awaited. Amrit is before us, but we must remain vigilant to obtain it. The demons will display their strength; we must face them while adhering to the path of Dharma."

Mohini Avatar

As soon as the Amrit kalash appeared, a fierce battle erupted between the gods and demons. Both sides were desperate to obtain Amrit. The demons were showcasing their physical strength, while the gods were using their divine powers. The ocean churning had once again transformed into a battlefield, filled with blood and the screams of demons. Seeing this, Lord Vishnu realized that if this war was not stopped, Amrit might fall into the hands of the demons, leading to the destruction of Dharma. Immediately, he assumed a wondrous and captivating form – the Mohini Avatar.

Mohini was exceedingly beautiful. Enchanted by her beauty, the demons diverted their attention from the war. The mesmerized demons entrusted the task of distributing Amrit among themselves to Mohini. Mohini said in a sweet voice, "O demons, I am pleased to be of service to you, but I am a goddess, and I must do justice to both gods and demons." Saying this, she asked the gods and demons to sit in separate rows.

Amrit and the Lesson

Mohini skillfully began to serve Amrit to the gods. The demons were so lost in Mohini's beauty that they noticed nothing. As soon as the gods drank Amrit, they became immortal, and their strength increased manifold. When Mohini refused to serve Amrit to the demons, they realized their mistake, but it was too late. Enraged, the demons attacked the gods again, but now the gods were immortal and capable of defeating the demons. Lord Vishnu's Mohini Avatar served Amrit to the gods and destroyed the demons' ego. Thus, with the help of the Kurma Avatar, the gods obtained Amrit, and Dharma was established.
