The Divine Vision of Vishnu

Dhruva's rigorous penance, which had shaken the three worlds, had reached its peak. Even the gods were amazed to see his devotion, unwavering faith, and firm resolve. Now, the time had come for that young boy, who had abandoned his kingdom to attain Lord Vishnu, to have a direct vision of his beloved deity.

Unwavering Meditation

The boy Dhruva, with his eyes closed, standing on one leg, holding his breath, was only chanting the name of Lord Vishnu. There was no doubt in his mind, no fear. Wild animals were roaming around in the forest, strong winds were blowing, but there was no hindrance in Dhruva's penance. The image of Lord Vishnu was becoming clearer within his eyes. He felt as if he was now standing before that divine light, for which he had suffered so much. Every pore of his body was thrilled.

A thought came to his mind, "Am I so fortunate that I will have a vision of Lord Vishnu? Has my penance been so successful that He Himself has come to give me a vision? O Lord, have mercy and keep me absorbed in your devotion."

The Manifestation of Vishnu

Suddenly, a wonderful light spread. That light was so intense that Dhruva had to open his eyes. Before him, riding on Garuda, holding the conch, discus, mace, and lotus, Lord Vishnu appeared. His divine form was so radiant that Dhruva's eyes were dazzled. The entire forest was illuminated by the aura of Lord Vishnu, as if a thousand rays of the sun had descended on the earth at once.

Lord Vishnu looked at Dhruva with a gentle smile. An ocean of love and compassion was rippling in his gaze. Dhruva's throat was choked. He fell at the feet of the Lord, tears flowing. Lord Vishnu lifted him with his gentle hands. With that touch, Dhruva felt as if he had attained the happiness of the entire universe.

The Command of the Boon

"O boy Dhruva," Lord Vishnu said, "I am extremely pleased with your rigorous penance and unwavering devotion. Ask for whatever boon you wish to ask for, without hesitation. The purity of your heart and your unwavering faith have compelled me to come here." Dhruva, standing before the Lord, was still overwhelmed with emotion. He wondered what to ask for. He had no desire for worldly pleasures. His only desire was devotion to God. But, Lord Vishnu commanded him to live in the world, follow Dharma, and inspire others with his actions, because his work was not yet complete. In the next chapter, we will see what boon Dhruva asks for and how he departs for the heavenly abode.
