Govardhan Parvat Katha – Chapter 3: Indra's Wrath: Torrential Rain

Indra's Wrath: Torrential Rain
In the previous chapter, we saw how the people of Gokul resolved to worship Govardhan Mountain, abandoning the age-old worship of Indra. Krishna explained to everyone that nature is the real deity, and it should be worshipped. Indra's ego did not like this at all, and a flame of anger blazed in his mind. Now see what the result of that anger is.
Flame of Anger
Devraj Indra was seated on his throne in his heavenly abode. His eyes were red with anger. His face was flushed with anger. His hands were clenched into fists. The rejection of his worship by the small boy Krishna of Gokul was burning him in the fire of humiliation. He thought, "An ignorant boy is challenging me, Indra, the king of the gods? I cannot tolerate this insult!" Indra's body trembled with anger.
Indra ordered his assistants, "Go, gather the clouds! Rain down such a deluge that Gokul is wiped off the face of the earth! Show that Krishna and his Gokul people what the power of Indra is! They should know what the consequence of insulting the gods is!" The intensity of anger was evident in his voice. He wanted to give proof of his power to Gokul.
Cataclysmic Rain
Following Indra's orders, black clouds gathered from all directions. The sky was covered with dense darkness. Lightning flashed and the earth trembled with the roar of the clouds. Then began the torrential rain. It started pouring heavily. It was as if the sky had burst open and all the water had fallen on the earth. The rivers began to overflow and Gokul was flooded. Strong winds started blowing, uprooting trees.
The people of Gokul were terrified. They had never seen such rain before. Children started crying, women started trembling with fear, and men were drowned in worry. They did not understand what to do. They looked at Krishna with hopeful eyes. They were confident that Krishna alone could save them from this crisis. Krishna said to the Gopis, "Do not be afraid! I told you, Govardhan Mountain will protect us, have faith."
Havoc in Gokul
The rain was increasing continuously. There was water everywhere in Gokul. People's houses started to sink, animals started to flow away, and life became chaotic. The people of Gokul were running here and there to save their lives. They felt like the apocalypse had arrived. They had an idea of Indra's anger. They understood that this rain was not normal, it was Indra's revenge.
Krishna told everyone to remain calm and to walk towards Govardhan Mountain. He said, "Do not worry. Govardhan Mountain is our refuge. It will protect us." Hearing Krishna's assurance, some hope arose in the people of Gokul. They all walked together towards Govardhan Mountain, with a feeling of fear and uncertainty in their minds, but their faith in Krishna was unwavering. What will happen next? Will Krishna be able to save the people of Gokul? We will see this in the next chapter.
Summary of Chapter 3: In this chapter, we saw how terrible Indra's anger can be. We also saw what happens when we disrespect nature. In this chapter, we also learn that we should always have faith in God, no matter how difficult the circumstances may be.
