Dhruva Bhakta Katha Chapter 2 — Narada's Guidance and Mantra. Devarshi Narada gives darshan to Dhruva, provides the Vishnu mantra, and guides him to perform penance.

Narada's Guidance and Mantra

In the previous chapter, we saw how the harsh words of stepmother Suruchi disturbed the heart of young Dhruva. He became determined to gain love and respect from his father, King Uttanapada. Having been tempered in the fire of insult and humiliation, his resolve became even stronger. Now, his eyes had only one goal - to see Lord Vishnu.

The Arrival of Narada Muni in the Forest

Dhruva, with his childlike determination, left the royal palace and set out for the forest. The path was unknown, the circumstances were difficult, but he had an unwavering faith in his mind. With his small feet, he walked on thorny bushes and rocky paths, his eyes fixed on his goal. There was a strange peace in the atmosphere, as if nature was also ready to support his penance. Suddenly, a radiant light appeared before him. From that light emerged a divine man, with a calm smile on his face and compassion in his eyes. He was Narada Muni.

Narada Muni made the atmosphere even more peaceful with the sweet sound of his Veena. "Child," he said lovingly, "what is the desire in your heart? What are you doing alone in this dense forest at such a young age?" Dhruva, filled with wonder and reverence, folded his hands and replied, "O sage, I want to see Lord Vishnu. I need his grace." He narrated the story of his stepmother's insult and his resolve to Narada Muni.

Initiation of the Vishnu Mantra

Narada Muni was very pleased to see the devotion and dedication of young Dhruva. He explained to Dhruva that devotion to God is not easy, it is a test of rigorous penance and patience. He said, "Dhruva, your resolve is great, but you are still very young. Go back to the royal palace, and do penance when the time is right." But Dhruva remained firm in his resolve. Seeing the intensity in his eyes and the firmness in his heart, Narada Muni realized that it was impossible to stop this child. Then Narada Muni initiated Dhruva into the sacred mantra of Lord Vishnu "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya". He explained that this mantra would give him strength and guidance, and help him reach Lord Vishnu.

With the initiation of the mantra, a new energy was transmitted within Dhruva. He felt as if Lord Vishnu himself was with him, giving him strength. Narada Muni told him the method of penance and advised him to remain constantly absorbed in the meditation of Lord Vishnu. He also told him that many obstacles would come while doing penance, but he should not deviate from his goal. Only Vishnu's grace would get him through every obstacle.

Advice for Rigorous Penance

Narada Muni explained to Dhruva that it is necessary to control the senses in penance. He said, "Dhruva, you will have to endure all kinds of hardships - hunger, thirst, cold, heat. Keep your mind calm and meditate only on Lord Vishnu. The stronger your resolve, the sooner you will receive God's grace." Dhruva bowed at the feet of Narada Muni and promised to follow his words. Narada Muni blessed him and went on his way. Dhruva was now alone, but he had the mantra of Lord Vishnu and the guidance of Narada Muni in his mind. He moved towards his goal, the path of his penance had been paved. Now it was time for rigorous penance, through which he could please Lord Vishnu. The next chapter will focus on Dhruva's rigorous penance.

Summary of Chapter 2: In this chapter, Narada Muni guides Dhruva and initiates him into the Vishnu mantra. It shows that God can be reached through true devotion and firm resolve, no matter how many obstacles there may be. Narada Muni's guidance becomes a source of inspiration for Dhruva and prepares him for rigorous penance.
