Ganesh Chaturthi Vrat Katha – Chapter 5: The Story of the Vrat and Salvation

The Story of the Fast and Salvation
In the previous chapter, we saw how Narad Muni told the king about the importance of the Ganesh Chaturthi fast and inspired him to perform this fast according to the prescribed rituals. The king, who was troubled by the troubles in his kingdom, became eager to observe this fast. A new hope had arisen in his mind, as if Ganapati himself was showing him the way to overcome the troubles.
The King's Resolve
Returning to his palace, the first thing the king did was to tell his wife, the queen, the words of Narad Muni. The queen was also worried about the state of the kingdom, and she was very pleased to hear about the Ganesh Chaturthi fast. She said to the king, "Your Majesty, if this fast can bring welfare to our kingdom, then we must observe it. Ganapati Bappa fulfills everyone's wishes." A firm resolve was visible on the king's face. He immediately summoned the royal priest and ordered him to prepare for the Ganesh Chaturthi fast. The entire kingdom joined in this auspicious task, everyone eager to be absorbed in the worship of Vighnaharta Ganesh.
The king said to himself, "O Ganapati, I forgot you out of ignorance. Forgive my kingdom. I will worship you with a sincere heart and fulfill all my duties. Please save my kingdom from this calamity."
Observance of the Fast and Freedom from Troubles
The day of Ganesh Chaturthi arrived. The king and queen observed the fast with all the prescribed rituals. They took a bath in the morning, wore new clothes, and installed the idol of Ganesh Ji. The royal priest chanted mantras, and the king offered incense, lamps, and offerings to Ganesh Ji. The entire palace echoed with the chants of victory to Ganesh Ji. The king ate only fruits throughout the day and recited Ganesh Stuti and Ganesh Chalisa in the evening. He gave alms to the poor and fed the Brahmins. As the day passed, the king began to experience peace and patience in his mind. Positive changes also began to appear in the kingdom that day.
By the grace of Ganesh Ji, prosperity began to return to the king's kingdom. It started to rain, and the crops in the fields began to flourish. The subjects became happy. The diseases and sorrows that were prevalent before gradually began to disappear. The king understood that he had received this salvation only through the worship of Ganesh Ji. The importance of the Ganesh Chaturthi fast spread throughout the kingdom, and everyone began to observe this fast.
Highlighting the Importance of the Fast
The king understood the importance of the Ganesh Chaturthi fast and propagated it throughout the kingdom.
