Chapter 4 of Radha Katha — Krishna's departure to Mathura. Krishna goes to Mathura to slay Kansa, which leaves Radha distressed in separation.

Krishna's Departure to Mathura

In the previous chapter, "The Rise of Divine Love," we witnessed the unbreakable bond of love between Radha and Krishna. Their Raslila in the lanes of Vrindavan, their loving conversations on the banks of the Yamuna, and their joyous life with the Gopis were a divine experience. But the wheel of time is relentless, and time brought the message of change. Now, it was time to write a new chapter in Krishna's life – the chapter of his departure to Mathura, which was to ignite the fire of separation in Radha's heart.

Akrura's Arrival

An atmosphere of peace and love pervaded Vrindavan. The Yamuna River flowed calmly, as if aware of Krishna's next destination. Suddenly, a chariot entered the borders of Vrindavan. Seated in the chariot was Akrura, a trusted servant of Kamsa, his face etched with lines of worry. Akrura went directly to Nanda Baba's house, where Krishna was playing with his friends. Upon seeing Akrura, Nanda Baba welcomed him with hospitality, but an unknown apprehension had taken root in his heart.

Akrura joined his hands and said, "Nanda Baba, I have brought a message from King Kamsa. He has invited Krishna and Balarama to Mathura, where a grand bow sacrifice has been organized. Kamsa wishes for Krishna and Balarama to showcase their strength and honor him." Krishna looked at Akrura, a serious gleam in his eyes. He knew this was not merely an invitation to a bow sacrifice; it was the beginning of a new path in his life, a path that would take him away from Radha. Krishna made a firm resolve in his heart, "I must go to Mathura, I must establish righteousness."

Radha's Separation

As soon as Krishna decided to go to Mathura, the news spread like wildfire throughout Vrindavan. The Gopis became distressed, their joy turned into sorrow. But the deepest pain was in Radha's heart. The very foundation of her life, her everything, was leaving her. Radha ran to Krishna, tears streaming from her eyes. Holding Krishna's hand, Radha said, "Kanhaiya, how can you leave me? My life will be empty without you. What will happen to my Vrindavan?"

Seeing Radha's distress, Krishna's heart was also filled with pain. He wiped Radha's tears and said, "Radhe, I know my life has no meaning without you, but I must follow the path of righteousness. I must end Kamsa's atrocities. This is my duty. You know that you will always reside in my heart. This distance is only physical; spiritually, we will always remain connected." Krishna explained to Radha that Radha herself is the embodiment of divine energy, capable of enduring this separation and showing the world the path of love.

The Moment of Farewell

The day of departure arrived. The entire Vrindavan was steeped in sorrow. The Gopis had gathered on the banks of the Yamuna, tears in their eyes and the fire of separation in their hearts. Krishna and Balarama boarded the chariot. Radha, with her friends, walked behind the chariot. Their pace slowed, as if their feet were unwilling to move forward. Krishna stopped the chariot and looked at Radha. His eyes held love, compassion, and reassurance.

Krishna assured Radha that their love was eternal, and this distance would only deepen their love. Radha applied a tilak to Krishna and performed his aarti. This was not just a physical farewell; it was the farewell of an era, a significant turning point in a divine love story. Radha convinced her heart that Krishna's departure was necessary for the establishment of righteousness, and their love would always remain safe in her heart. As the chariot moved towards Mathura, Radha fainted and fell. Her friends supported her, but the fire of separation from Krishna continued to burn in her heart. This separation made Radha even more divine, turning her into an embodiment of love and sacrifice.

Summary of Chapter 4: In this chapter, we witnessed Krishna's departure to Mathura and Radha's separation. Krishna goes to Mathura to establish righteousness, while Radha becomes distressed in his absence. This chapter teaches us that in love, sacrifice and adherence to duty are also essential, and true love is never diminished by distance.
