Ganesh Chaturthi Vrat Katha – Chapter 2: Gajamukh and the Attainment of Blessings

Gajamukha and the Attainment of Blessings
In the previous chapter, we learned about the birth of Ganesh and his divine powers. Created by Mother Parvati, the radiant child was guarding his mother's door, unknowingly about to become part of a series of events that would make him the first to be worshipped among the gods. Now, the story continues with becoming Gajamukha and receiving blessings.
Shiva's Anger and the Birth of Gajamukha
Lord Shiva, who was absorbed in deep penance on Mount Kailash, became angry upon seeing an unknown child at the door. His divine aura was like fire, and energy was flowing from his matted hair. Ganesh, steadfast in his duty, stood firm to prevent him from entering. There was courage in his eyes, but also a glimpse of innocence. The tension in the atmosphere was increasing, and even the gods were worried to see this unexpected event.
Shiva roared, "O child, who are you to stop me from entering my own house? Do you not know the extent of my anger?" Ganesh replied, "I am the son of my mother Parvati, and she has ordered me not to allow anyone to enter without her permission, even if it is Lord Shiva himself." Shiva's eyes turned red with anger. He could not tolerate this disobedience.
Ganesh Granted Gajamukha and the Boon of Being the First to be Worshipped
The enraged Shiva severed Ganesh's head from his body with his trident. Parvati began to wail upon seeing this scene. Her heart was overwhelmed with grief for her son. She said to Shiva, "You have killed my son! How will I live now?" Shiva's heart melted upon seeing Parvati's sorrow. He told the gods to go to the north and bring back the head of the first creature they found and attach it to Ganesh's torso. The gods found an elephant, whose head they brought.
Lord Shiva placed the elephant's head on Ganesh's torso and revived him. Then Ganesh became Gajamukha. Mother Parvati initially expressed sorrow upon seeing her son in this form, but then Shiva explained to her that Ganesh would now be even more powerful and worthy of worship. Shiva blessed Ganesh that he would be the first to be worshipped among all the gods. No auspicious work will be successful without the worship of Ganesh. No prayer will be accepted without the grace of Ganesh.
Respect and Praise by the Gods
All the gods bowed to Ganesh and praised him. Vishnu declared him the god of intelligence. Brahma described him as the symbol of knowledge and wisdom. Indra called him the remover of all obstacles and gave him the title "Vighnaharta." Mother Lakshmi described him as the symbol of prosperity and good fortune. Ganesh, even in his Gajamukha form, became dear to everyone and resided in every heart. The three worlds echoed with his praise.
This respect and blessing received by Ganesh will be the basis for future events. The moon's insult to Ganesh and then Ganesh's curse upon him is an important part of this story, which will introduce us to Ganesh's justice and divine power. In the upcoming chapter, we will see how the moon is punished for his actions and how he atones for them.
Summary of Chapter 2: In this chapter, we saw how Ganesh became Gajamukha and received the boon of being the first to be worshipped. This story teaches us that despite anger and sorrow, Lord Shiva showed compassion and gave Ganesh the highest position among the gods. The Gajamukha form of Ganesh is a symbol of intelligence, power, and auspiciousness, which shows the importance of worshipping him at the beginning of every task.
