Shiva's Anger and Destruction

The flames of Sati's self-immolation had barely subsided when a fierce tremor began to shake Kailash. Nandi and other attendants trembled with fear, unable to comprehend its meaning. Sati's sacrifice had stirred such a tumult in the universe that even Mahadev could not remain untouched by its echo.

Mahadev's Rudra Form

The peace of Mount Kailash was shattered. Mahadev's meditation was broken. His third eye blazed with anger, as if the fire of annihilation was contained within it. His matted locks unfurled, and assuming his Rudra form, he appeared terrifyingly fierce. Embers rained from his eyes. It seemed as though the Lord of the Three Worlds himself was awestruck by his own destructive aspect. A piteous cry of "Sati... Sati..." escaped his lips, a mixture of love, grief, and rage. Clouds thundered in the sky, and the earth trembled, as if Lord Shiva's wrath was about to engulf the entire cosmos. Fear and terror reigned in all directions.

Nandi, with a trembling voice, asked, "O Lord, what is happening? We have never seen such anger in you before." Mahadev looked at Nandi with his red eyes and roared, "Daksha... he insulted Sati. He insulted my love. He will surely be punished for this."

Veerabhadra's Manifestation and the Destruction of the Yajna

Mahadev plucked a strand of hair from his matted locks and threw it to the ground. In that instant, a fearsome warrior manifested – Veerabhadra. His body was as vast as mountains, and his arms were as powerful as thunderbolts. As Veerabhadra appeared, Mount Kailash trembled even more violently. He bowed to Mahadev and asked, "O Lord, what is your command? Whose destruction is to be wrought?" Mahadev said in an angry tone, "Veerabhadra! Destroy Daksha's yajna. Shatter his arrogance. Avenge the insult to Sati." Veerabhadra roared with a terrifying laugh, saying, "As you command, Lord!" and set off with his attendants towards Daksha's yajna site. Led by Veerabhadra, the Shiva Ganas stormed Daksha's yajna site. Chaos erupted in the yajna pavilion. The sacrificial fire was extinguished. Gods, sages, and Brahmins fled in panic. The sacrificial pits filled with blood.

Sati, with her divine vision, saw Veerabhadra destroying the yajna. Compassion arose in her heart. She bestowed power upon Veerabhadra so that he could protect Dharma and quell Daksha's arrogance. By Sati's grace, Veerabhadra became even more powerful.

Daksha's Head is Severed

Veerabhadra alone defeated Daksha's entire army. Daksha trembled with fear, unable to comprehend what was happening. Veerabhadra seized Daksha and prepared to take him before Mahadev. Then, Veerabhadra remembered Mahadev's command. With his sharp sword, he severed Daksha's head from his body. Daksha's head fell into the sacrificial fire, and the entire atmosphere turned red with blood. The gods and sages, terrified, pleaded with Mahadev for forgiveness. In this terrible destruction, an atmosphere of fear and despair prevailed everywhere. This destruction was the result of Mahadev's wrath, born from the insult and death of Sati.
