Durvasa Muni explained the importance of Purushottam Maas to the girl, but she rejected it. Then, instead of cursing her, Durvasa advised her to do penance to Shiva.

Narada Ji said, 'O treasure of penance! What advice did the extremely angry Durvasa Muni give to that girl after thinking it over? Please tell me that.

Sutji said, 'O twice-born! Hearing Narada's words, Badri Narayan, who is beneficial to all beings, spoke the secret words of Durvasa. Shri Narayan said, 'O Narada! Listen to what Rishi Durvasa said to remove the sorrow of the daughter of the wise Rishi.

Durvasa Rishi said, 'O beautiful one! I am telling you a secret that is more secret than secret. This subject is not worth telling to anyone, yet I have considered it for you. I will tell you in brief instead of in detail. O auspicious one! The third month from this month that will come is Purushottam Maas. By bathing in a pilgrimage site in this month, a person is freed from the sin of abortion.

O beautiful one! Among the twelve months, starting with Kartik, there is no month equal to this Purushottam Maas. All the months, fortnights, and festivals are not even equal to the sixteenth part of Purushottam Maas. The Vedic means and the means of attaining the supreme position are also not equal to the sixteenth part of this month. The fruit that one gets by bathing in the Ganges for twelve thousand years and the fruit that one gets by bathing once in Godavari during Singhstha Guru, O beautiful one! The same fruit is obtained by bathing only once in any pilgrimage site in Purushottam Maas.

O girl! This month is very dear to Shri Krishna and is a memorial to God by its name. By serving and worshiping Purushottam Bhagavan in this month, all desires are fulfilled. Therefore, you should quickly observe the fast of this Purushottam Maas. Like Purushottam Bhagavan, I have also served this month with pleasure.

Once, in anger, I sent Artha Kritya to burn King Ambarish, so O girl! Then Hari sent the burning Sudarshan Chakra to burn me at the same time. Then, it was only by the effect of Purushottam Maas that the Chakra was removed. O beautiful one! When that Chakra, capable of burning the three worlds, came to me and went back empty, I was greatly surprised. Therefore, O auspicious one! You observe the fast of Shri Purushottam Maas.' Saying this to the daughter of the Muni, Durvasa Rishi took a break.

Shri Krishna Ji said, 'O Rajan! Hearing Durvasa's words, driven by the intensity of emotions, that girl, motivated by envy, foolishly spoke to Durvasa.

The girl said, 'O Brahman! O Muni! What you have said does not please me. How can the months of Magh etc. not give any fruit? Is Kartik Maas less? How do you say that? Please tell me.

Does Vaishakh Maas, when served, not give the desired results? Do all the deities, from Sadashiva onwards, not give fruit when served? Or are the direct god Sun on earth and the mother of the world, the goddess, not capable of giving all desires? Does Shri Ganesh not give the desired boon upon being served? Are you not ashamed to praise Purushottam Maas by transgressing Vyatipat and other Yogas and Sharva and other deities? This month is very impure and condemned in all works. O Muni! How can you call this month, devoid of Ravi's transit, the best?

I know the supreme Shri Hari who removes all sorrows. O God! Thinking of Shri Hari day and night, I do not see anyone other than Janakipati Ram and Parvatipati Shankar. O Vipendra! There is no other deity who can remove this sorrow of mine. Therefore, O Muni! How are you praising this Malmaas, leaving all these fruit-givers?

Hearing what the Brahmin girl said, Durvasa Muni became extremely radiant from his body and his eyes turned red with anger. Even after getting angry like this, he did not curse the friend's daughter out of compassion and began to think that she is foolish and does not know what is good and bad. Her intellect is not yet complete. Even scholars do not know the greatness of Purushottam Maas, so how can men with little intelligence and especially unmarried girls know it?

This unmarried girl is without parents and burnt by the fire of sorrow, so how can she bear my extremely fierce curse? Thinking in this way, he calmed the anger that arose in his mind with compassion and, becoming healthy, Durvasa Muni spoke to that extremely distraught girl.

Durvasa said, 'O friend's daughter! I have no anger towards you, O unfortunate one! Do as you please. O girl! Listen to some more future predictions. You will surely get the fruit of disrespecting Purushottam Maas. Whether you get it in this birth or in another birth. Now I will go to the hermitage of Nar-Narayan. I did not curse you because your father was my friend, you do not know your good and bad and your welfare due to your childish nature. No one can avoid the auspicious and inauspicious future. Well, a lot of our time has been spent, now we are leaving, may you be well.'

Shri Krishna said, 'Saying this, the very angry Durvasa Muni quickly left. As soon as Durvasa Rishi left, the girl became ineffective due to neglecting Purushottam. After that, after thinking for a long time, the girl decided that she would worship Parvatipati Shiva, the god of gods, who gives immediate results, through penance. O Nrip! The daughter of the wise Rishi, having decided in her mind in this way, stayed in her hermitage and became ready to perform difficult penance to Lord Shankar.

Sutji said, 'Leaving the giver of many fruits, Lakshmipati, and likewise Savitripati Brahma, and condemning the strong words of Durvasa, that Rishi's daughter became ready to serve Shankar, the slayer of Andhak, in her hermitage.

Thus ends the tenth chapter of Shri Brihannaradiya Purushottammasmahatmya.॥10॥
