Chapter 4 of Gopika Uddhar Katha — Krishna's Divine Manifestation. Krishna finally appears before the Gopis, soothing their suffering with His divine presence and bestowing upon them the joy of the Rasa Lila.

Krishna's Divine Manifestation

The previous chapter, ‘Search for the Beloved’, depicts the Gopis' pangs of separation and their unwavering love for Krishna. While searching for their beloved in the forest, the Gopis were distressed, their hearts filled only with the desire to see Krishna. Now, the time had come to reap the fruits of their devotion and love.

Radha and the Gopis' Lamentation

The cool rays of the moon danced on the calm waters of the Yamuna, as if participating in the Gopis' sorrow. Radha, most distressed in separation from Krishna, sat by the banks of the Yamuna. Tears streamed from her eyes, as if her very soul was weeping. The other Gopis sat around her, dejected and weary, consoling their dear friend. Only sobs and the chanting of Krishna's name could be heard in the air, which made the entire atmosphere mournful.

Radha said in a sorrowful voice, "O Krishna, where are you? Do you not see our pain? We have dedicated our everything to you, yet why are you so far from us?" A deep chasm of despair had descended into the hearts of the Gopis. Was their penance, their love, all in vain?

Krishna's Wonderful Manifestation

Just then, as if in answer to their prayers, a divine light shone in the sky. The waters of the Yamuna turned golden, and a sweet melody resonated throughout the atmosphere. The Gopis looked up in astonishment. Before them, from the waters of the Yamuna, Krishna Himself appeared! His divine form was wondrous – adorned with peacock feathers, clad in yellow silk, and a gentle smile graced his face. The tune emanating from his flute filled the Gopis' hearts with joy.

Krishna said in his divine voice, "O Gopis, you are all my beloved. I am well aware of your devotion and love. I was testing you, so that your love could become even stronger. Now your suffering has ended. From today, we will perform the Rasa Lila, and you all will dance with me in bliss." Hearing Krishna's assurance, waves of joy surged through the Gopis' minds. Tears of happiness flowed from their eyes, and they all chanted "Jai Shri Krishna" together.

The Beginning and Joy of Rasa Lila

Krishna played his flute, and a wonderful Rasa Lila began. On the banks of the Yamuna, the Gopis started dancing with Krishna. Every step of theirs was filled with love and devotion. Krishna, through his yogamaya, was dancing separately with each Gopi, making each Gopi feel that Krishna was only with her. The atmosphere was saturated with love, joy, and devotion.

This Rasa Lila was not just a dance, but a union of the soul and the Supreme Being. The Gopis, forgetting their worldly identities, became absorbed in Krishna. This Rasa Lila continued for eternity, as if time itself had stopped. The love and devotion of the Gopis towards Krishna reached its highest peak through this Rasa Lila. Now, the purpose of the Gopis' lives was fulfilled. In the next chapter, we will see how this divine union leads to salvation and eternal love.

Summary of Chapter 4: In this chapter, Krishna appears before the Gopis, alleviates their suffering, and the Rasa Lila begins. Its spiritual message is that true devotion and love attract God, and the union of the soul and the Supreme Being is true bliss.
