Parvati's Penance Story – Chapter 6: Shiva Appears

The Appearance of Shiva
Parvati's rigorous penance, which did not waver even from the final test taken by Shiva in the previous chapter, had shaken the three worlds. Nature itself bowed before her unwavering faith and love. Now, the moment had arrived, which gods and sages alike were eagerly awaiting – the appearance of Lord Shiva before Parvati.
Shiva's Divine Form
In the place where Parvati sat in meditation, a wondrous light suddenly spread. This light was so intense that at first, even Parvati's eyes were dazzled, but then her gaze slowly focused on the luminous center. In the midst of the light, Lord Shiva appeared in his divine form. His body was smeared with ash, the Ganges flowed through his matted locks, and snakes were coiled around his neck. His third eye shone on his forehead, and in his hands, he held a trident and a damaru. His form was awe-inspiring and mixed with fear, but in Parvati's heart, only feelings of love and devotion surged.
Parvati opened her eyes. "O Mahadeva," she said in a soft voice, "Is it true that I am in your presence? Has my years of penance been successful?" A doubt lingered in her mind, lest this be a dream, lest this be the fruit of her devotion. But as Shiva looked at her with a smile, all her doubts vanished.
Acceptance of Grace
Lord Shiva said in his calm and grave voice, "O Parvati, I am extremely pleased with your penance. Your love and devotion have compelled me to fulfill your wish. The rigorous vow you have undertaken to have me as your husband is unparalleled in the three worlds." Saying this, Shiva accepted Parvati as his wife. He said, "From today, you are my Ardhangini, my inseparable part. Together, we shall bring welfare to this creation."
Tears of joy welled up in Parvati's eyes. She touched the feet of Lord Shiva and said, "O Mahadeva, I am your servant. My life is blessed that you have accepted me as your wife." An ocean of bliss surged through her every pore, and her heart was filled with gratitude. Her penance, her love, her devotion, everything had been successful. Today, she had received the greatest reward of her life – the love and acceptance of Lord Shiva.
Praise from the Deities
As soon as Lord Shiva accepted Parvati as his wife, the gods in heaven rejoiced and began to sing hymns of praise. Drums sounded, celestial nymphs began to dance, and Gandharvas sang melodious music. All the gods, including Brahma, Vishnu, and Indra, began to chant victory slogans for Lord Shiva and Parvati. They showered flowers and glorified their majesty. It was a wondrous sight, as if the entire universe was witnessing that sacred union.
In heaven, the gods chanted verses and mantras. "Victory to Shiva-Parvati! Victory to Shiva-Parvati!" This sound echoed in all directions, as if the entire universe was welcoming this sacred bond. The fruits of Parvati's penance were also received by the gods, for they knew that the union of Shiva and Parvati would bring welfare to creation, establish righteousness, and destroy evil. Now, in the next chapter, this divine love was to be bound in the knot of marriage, which everyone was eagerly awaiting.
Summary of Chapter 6: In this chapter, Lord Shiva, pleased with Parvati's penance, appears before her in his divine form and accepts her as his wife. The gods praise them. The spiritual lesson of this chapter is that God can be attained through true devotion and love, and God fulfills the desires of his devotees.
