Chapter 1 of the Story of Kali Mata — The Emergence of Kali Mata. Kali Mata is born from the anger of Goddess Parvati to fight demons.

The Origin of Goddess Kali

In the previous chapter, we heard the story of Sati's self-immolation at Daksha Prajapati's yajna. Lord Shiva was plunged into deep sorrow due to Sati's separation. Meanwhile, the atrocities of demons on gods and humans were increasing, as Shiva was engrossed in his meditation and the creation was becoming unbalanced.

Parvati's Anger

Parvati, the daughter of the Himalayas, who was considered the reincarnation of Sati, was performing severe penance to have Lord Shiva as her husband. Her mind was absorbed in Shiva's meditation, but when she heard the story of the demons' atrocities on gods and humans, the flame of anger ignited in her heart. Her calm and gentle face became flushed with anger, and red veins appeared in her eyes. Parvati felt that there was an immediate need to destroy the demons.

In her mind, Parvati said, "How can I tolerate this injustice? How can I see my devotees in suffering? Shiva is in meditation, but I cannot sit idly. I must do something, I must end this atrocity." Filled with anger and compassion, tears flowed from Parvati's eyes, as if a volcano was ready to erupt. She intensified her penance and began to gather her strength.

The Birth of Kali

As a result of Parvati's unbearable anger and resolve, a wonderful and fearsome power emerged from her body. This power manifested as a goddess of dark complexion, with disheveled hair, a garland of skulls around her neck, and a sword adorning her hand. Her tongue was protruding, and her eyes were burning like fire. This was Kali, the form of the Adi Shakti who descended to destroy the demons.

With the birth of Kali, an earthquake shook nature. Lightning flashed in the sky, the earth trembled, and high waves rose in the ocean. The gods bowed to Kali with fear and reverence. Kali's radiance was so intense that it was difficult to bear, but for her devotees, this radiance was a symbol of protection and strength. She granted fearlessness to the people who were crying out in terror from the demons.

The Terror of the Demons

Before Kali's manifestation, demons named Shumbha and Nishumbha had spread their terror in heaven and on earth. They had driven the gods out of heaven and made humans their slaves. Yajna and Homa had stopped, and Dharma was being destroyed. There was an atmosphere of fear and despair everywhere. The demon armies were mercilessly killing people and burning their homes. Distressed by their terror, sages and gods had gone to the refuge of the Lord, and it was from their prayers that the Shakti was born.

But with the birth of Kali, the end of the demons' terror was near. The demons were terrified upon hearing Kali's roar. Kali declared that she would drench the earth with the blood of demons and establish Dharma. Now, a ray of hope had dawned in the hearts of gods and humans. They knew that only Kali could free them from the clutches of the demons. The next chapter will tell how the war between Kali and the demons takes place.

Summary of Chapter 1: In this chapter, we saw how Goddess Kali emerged from Parvati's anger. Kali descended to destroy the demons and establish Dharma. From this chapter, we learn that it is necessary to raise our voice against injustice and walk the path of Dharma.
