Meaning of the Aarti

The literal meaning of the first stanza is that we perform the Aarti of Hanuman Lala, who is the destroyer of the wicked and the power (strength) of Raghunath (Rama). The implied meaning is that we worship Lord Hanuman, who is a symbol of Lord Rama's power and is capable of destroying evil. This describes Hanuman Ji's strength and his devotion to Lord Rama.

Method of Performing Aarti

In the Aarti plate, place a lamp, camphor, ghee, flowers, incense, akshat (rice), and kumkum. The lamp should be made of ghee, and a cotton wick should be lit in it. The flowers should be fresh and fragrant. The incense should be aromatic.

The correct way to rotate the Aarti is to first rotate it four times at the feet of the deity, then twice near the navel, and finally once at the face. The Aarti should be rotated seven times. While performing Aarti, one should chant "Om Jai Hanuman" or any mantra of Hanuman Ji.

Hanuman's Aarti is usually performed during the evening Aarti, but it can also be done during the Mangala Aarti or Shayan Aarti. The appropriate time for evening Aarti is after sunset.
