Jai Jagannath! Today, a very special and sacred festival is being celebrated at the Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri— Naba Jauban Besh Darshan. After falling ill following the Debasnan Purnima, the Lord is now fully recovered after a long period of 14 days of seclusion (Anavasara) and is giving darshan to His devotees.

What is the Significance of Naba Jauban Besh?

According to tradition, on the day of Jyeshtha Purnima (Snana Yatra), after bathing with 108 pitchers of cold water, Mahaprabhu Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra fall ill. During this time, they remain in seclusion for 14 days in the 'Anavasara Ghara' (Anasara Ghara), where only physicians and special attendants treat them with secret herbal medicines (Phulori oil and Dashamoola decoction).

After 14 days, when the Lords are fully recovered, they appear in a new, youthful, and energetic form. This enchanting and refreshing form of the Lord is called Naba Jauban Besh.

The Ritual of Netra Utsav

Along with Naba Jauban Darshan, the important ritual of 'Netra Utsav' is also performed. It is believed that due to resting for 14 days and the application of herbal pastes, the color of the Lord's eyes fades. On this day, the Datt Mohapatra sevaks paint the Lord's eyes with special natural colors (tulsi and kajal), making the eyes of Mahaprabhu attractive and vibrant once again.

Main Attractions of Today's Darshan:

• Divine Adornment: Today, all three deities have been decorated with special clothes and flowers.
• Devotees' Enthusiasm: A massive crowd of millions of devotees has gathered in Puri to catch a glimpse of the Lord just before the Rath Yatra.
• Rath Yatra Preparations: With this darshan, the Lord will now begin preparations for His annual Rath Yatra (Rath Yatra 2026) to the Gundicha Temple.

• Security Arrangements: Special barricading and live screen arrangements have been made by the administration for the convenience of the devotees.
