Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat Katha

Chapter One: Poverty in the City

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful city named Surat. All kinds of people lived in that city – the rich, the poor, merchants, and laborers. However, for some time, poverty had taken residence in the city. People's businesses had come to a standstill, there was a shortage of food in homes, and mutual harmony had also begun to diminish. There was an atmosphere of despair and worry everywhere.

In those days, a poor family lived in the city. The family consisted of a husband and wife, Ramesh and Rama, and their two small children. Ramesh was a laborer and could barely support his family. Rama, an ideal wife and mother, was always worried about her family. Due to the lack of grains at home, the children often had to sleep on an empty stomach.

One day, Rama said to Ramesh, "Husband, the situation has become unbearable now. I cannot bear to see the children hungry. Is there no way by which we can get rid of this poverty?"

Ramesh said sadly, "Dear, I have tried every possible way, but I see no ray of hope anywhere. It seems this is what is written in our destiny."

Chapter Two: The Arrival of Mother Lakshmi

One Friday evening, Rama was sitting outside the house. Just then, she saw an old woman, who looked extremely radiant and calm, approaching her. There was a wonderful glow on the old woman's face, and her eyes were filled with an ocean of compassion.

The old woman came near Rama and said, "Daughter, why are you so sad? What is your sorrow?"

Rama respectfully bowed to the old woman and narrated her entire plight. She explained how poverty had surrounded their family and how she was distressed seeing her children hungry.

The old woman smiled and said, "Daughter, do not worry. Your sorrow will surely be alleviated. I will tell you about the Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat. This vrat is the simplest and most effective way to please Mother Lakshmi. If this vrat is performed with proper rituals, Mother Lakshmi will surely fulfill your desires."

Chapter Three: The Ritual of Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat

The old woman told Rama the ritual of the Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat. She said, "Daughter, this vrat should be started on a Friday. One should fast for the whole day and worship Mother Lakshmi in the evening. Install an idol or picture of Mother Lakshmi in the puja. Offer red clothes, offer a lotus flower, and light incense and lamps. Offer kheer and coconut as prasad to Mother Lakshmi. Then recite the Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat Katha and perform the aarti. Finally, distribute the prasad among everyone and partake of it yourself."

The old woman further said, "This vrat should be observed for eleven consecutive Fridays. On the eleventh Friday, the Udyapan (conclusion ceremony) should be performed. In the Udyapan, feed the poor and donate as much as possible. Performing this vrat brings happiness, peace, and prosperity into the home."

The old woman also narrated the story of the Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat to Rama and described the glory of Mother Lakshmi. Rama listened to the old woman's words with devotion and decided to perform the vrat.

Chapter Four: Observing the Vrat

From the next Friday, Rama started the Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat. She would wake up early in the morning, bathe, and meditate on Mother Lakshmi. She would fast for the whole day and perform the puja with proper rituals in the evening. She recited the Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat Katha and sang the aarti of Mother Lakshmi. Ramesh was also very impressed by Rama's devotion and faith and he also joined Rama in the vrat.

Gradually, prosperity began to enter Rama's home. Ramesh started getting work, and their financial situation improved. The children began to get full meals, and happiness returned to the home. Rama and Ramesh further strengthened their faith and devotion towards Mother Lakshmi.

Chapter Five: The Miracle

On the eleventh Friday, Rama performed the Udyapan of the vrat with proper rituals. She fed the poor and donated as much as she could. On that day, a wonderful miracle happened. The old woman who had told Rama about the Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat came to their house again.

The old woman blessed Rama and Ramesh and said, "Daughter, you both have observed the vrat with faith and devotion. Mother Lakshmi is pleased with your devotion, and she has fulfilled all your desires. Always follow righteousness and justice, and help others. Mother Lakshmi will always be with you."

Saying this, the old woman disappeared. Rama and Ramesh realized that the old woman was Mother Lakshmi herself, who had come to test them. They thanked Mother Lakshmi again and again and prayed for her grace to remain with them always.

Chapter Six: Happiness and Prosperity in the City

After happiness returned to the lives of Rama and Ramesh, they told the other people in the city about the Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat. Gradually, the Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat began to be performed throughout the city. Wealth and grains increased in people's homes, and happiness and prosperity resided in the city. All the people were happy with the grace of Mother Lakshmi and expressed their gratitude.

Thus, due to the effect of the Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat, Surat city became happy again, and people began to live their lives joyfully.
