Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga: Mallikarjuna Temple Guide & Katha
Located on the Shri Shail mountain on the banks of the Krishna River (Patal Ganga) in the Nandyal district of Andhra Pradesh, the Mallikarjuna Swami Temple is the second of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. This holy pilgrimage holds the unique honor of being one of the 18 Mahashakti Peethas (Mother Bhramaramba Devi) of Mother Sati, along with being a Jyotirlinga. According to the Shiva Purana, when Kartikeya, displeased, went to Kraunch mountain, Lord Shiva appeared here in the form of a Jyoti as 'Arjuna' and Mother Parvati as 'Mallika' to appease him. Performing touch darshan and bathing in Patal Ganga here grants liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
