How the Hindu "day" works

In the Hindu panchang the day (vaar) is counted from one sunrise to the next, not from midnight. That is why the Gregorian date and the tithi often differ — a tithi can change at any hour of the day. For an auspicious act, the vaar, tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana are all considered together.

⚠️ This information is based on traditional panchang calculations and is meant as general guidance. For important ceremonies such as marriage or Griha Pravesh, please confirm the muhurat with a qualified pandit or acharya. Timings can shift slightly by city as sunrise and sunset differ.
