Varaha Avatar Story – Chapter 3: Salvation of the Earth
Salvation of the Earth
The previous chapter concluded with prayers and the wondrous manifestation of the Varaha Avatar. Lord Vishnu was implored by Brahma Ji and the Devas to protect the Earth from the terror of Hiranyaksha. Lord Vishnu heard their plea and assumed the form of Varaha, proceeding towards the netherworld (Rasatala), where the Earth had been hidden by Hiranyaksha.
Entry into the Netherworld
The colossal form of Lord Varaha, shining like gold, descended from the Earth. Darkness pervaded the netherworld, a terrifying silence where evil spirits resided. Located deep beneath the Earth's surface, this place was filled with dreadful caves and serpents. Lord Varaha, with his sharp tusks and powerful body, remained calm and steadfast even in this terrifying environment. His eyes held the resolve to save the universe, and his heart was filled with boundless compassion for his devotees. The negative energy all around began to tremble at his presence.
"Mother Earth, I have arrived," Lord Varaha said in his mind. "I am ready to make any sacrifice to free you from the clutches of this demon."
Challenging Hiranyaksha
At the deepest end of the netherworld, Lord Varaha saw Hiranyaksha. The demon, as if a symbol of darkness itself, was crushing the Earth with his mighty arms. His body was as vast as mountains, and his eyes blazed with anger. Upon seeing Lord Varaha, Hiranyaksha roared, his voice making the caves of the netherworld tremble.
"Who are you, who dares to enter my domain?" Hiranyaksha said angrily. "Do you not know that I am Hiranyaksha, the destroyer of the Devas?"
Lord Varaha replied in a calm voice, "I am Vishnu, and I have come here to save the Earth. You will surely be punished for the sin you have committed."
Hiranyaksha laughed mockingly and said, "Vishnu? A Varaha? Can you defeat me? This Earth is mine now, and no one can snatch it from me."
The Beginning of a Fierce Battle
Hearing Hiranyaksha's challenge, Lord Varaha became enraged, but his anger was for Dharma and justice. He immediately attacked Hiranyaksha. The colossal tusks of Lord Varaha struck Hiranyaksha's body, causing him to recoil. A fierce battle ensued between the two. Their clashes shook the netherworld, and the rocks of the caves began to break. Hiranyaksha attacked with his mace, while Lord Varaha used his tusks and strength.
During the battle, Lord Vishnu expanded his divine illusion, causing Hiranyaksha's strength to wane. Every blow from Lord Varaha weakened Hiranyaksha, while Hiranyaksha's rage blinded him further. The Devas in heaven cheered for Lord Varaha, and a ray of hope shone in the netherworld. Hiranyaksha realized that he was not fighting an ordinary foe, but Lord Vishnu himself.
Hiranyaksha's ego began to melt away, and he saw his death approaching. Lord Varaha struck once more with immense power, causing Hiranyaksha to fall wounded to the ground. Silence descended upon the netherworld, and all eyes were fixed on Lord Varaha.
Summary of Chapter 3: In this chapter, Lord Varaha enters the netherworld and challenges Hiranyaksha. A fierce battle begins between the two, in which Lord Varaha displays his divine power. This chapter shows that efforts made for Dharma and justice are always successful, no matter how adverse the circumstances may be. In the next chapter, we will see how Lord Varaha triumphs over evil.
