Prayer and Manifestation

In the previous chapter, we saw how the submergence of the Earth into the Kshira Sagar by Hiranyaksha caused chaos throughout the universe. Sages and ascetics gathered in Brahmaji's assembly, seeking a solution to this crisis, but no clear path was visible. The atmosphere became grave with the sorrowful cries of Mother Earth and the worries of the gods. Now, let's see in the further narrative how Lord Vishnu appears in this dire situation and rescues the universe from the crisis.

Brahmaji's Distress

Brahmaji, seated on his throne, was extremely distressed. His gaze, spread in all four directions, was filled with despair. Only the scene of Mother Earth's plight revolved in his mind. As the creator of the universe, he felt the weight of his responsibility in his heart, and he worried if he had made any mistake in creation. All the gods, sages, and Gandharvas looked towards him with hopeful eyes, as if waiting for a divine voice to calm his distress. The chanting of Vedic mantras also fell silent at that time, as everyone was terrified by the apprehension of the impending doom that loomed over the universe.

Brahmaji, taking a deep breath, said, "O Narayana, O Supreme Father, guide us! This Hiranyaksha, blinded by the arrogance of his power, is bent on destroying the entire creation. Mother Earth is submerged in water, and we are all helpless. Our intellect is not working. Please show us the path to liberation through your divine illusion." These words, uttered from his mouth, echoed as a prayer throughout the universe.

Vishnu Assumes the Form of Varaha

As soon as Brahmaji's prayer ended, a wondrous light emanated from the depths of the Kshira Sagar. This light was so intense that it dazzled the eyes of the gods. Then, from amidst that light, a colossal form of a Varaha (boar) appeared. The body of that Varaha was as vast as a mountain, and its roar shook the three worlds. Its tusks were sharp, and its gaze held immense brilliance. This was the Varaha avatar of Lord Vishnu, who had appeared to save the Earth.

This form of Lord Vishnu was wondrous and powerful. In his Varaha avatar, he conveyed the message through his divine play that when righteousness is harmed, he appears in any form to protect it. By his grace, hope was instilled in the gods and sages. All of them together chanted, "Victory to Lord Vishnu!", which resonated throughout the entire creation. Experiencing Vishnu's power and compassion, everyone was reassured that the Earth was now safe.

The Gods' Astonishment

Upon seeing the Varaha form of Lord Vishnu, the gods were filled with astonishment. They had never seen such a form of the Lord before. The divinity and valor of the Varaha avatar amazed them. They understood that only Lord Vishnu could deliver them from this crisis. They all joined their hands and began to praise Lord Varaha. Pleased by their praise, Lord Varaha leaped into the Kshira Sagar to search for the Earth. In the next chapter, we will see how Lord Varaha slays Hiranyaksha and rescues the Earth.
