Vamana's Brahmopadesha and Journey

In the previous chapter, we saw how Mother Aditi prayed to Lord Vishnu through severe penance to receive Him as her son. Pleased by her devotion, the Lord blessed her with the boon of taking birth in the form of Vamana. Now the story moves forward, with the Upanayana Sanskar of Vamana Deva and His departure for Mahabali's Yajna.

Vamana's Upanayana Sanskar

A wave of joy spread through the universe. Vamana Deva, though small in stature, was equal to the sun in knowledge and radiance, and began to grow gradually. The beauty of child Vamana was unparalleled; compassion was always present in His eyes and a serene smile on His face. The Rishis and Munis congratulated Aditi and Rishi Kashyap, and preparations for Vamana's Upanayana Sanskar began. The atmosphere resonated with mantras and divine melodies, illuminating even the heavens. Rishi Kashyap himself imparted the Gayatri Mantra to Vamana, the symbol of knowledge and wisdom.

"O Vamana," said Rishi Kashyap, "from today you will observe Brahmacharya and study the Vedas. Your life will be on the path of Dharma and Truth. Always help others and bring welfare to all with your knowledge." Vamana bowed His head with reverence and accepted His father's blessings. The flame of knowledge ignited in His heart.

Gifts from the Devas

After the Upanayana Sanskar, all the Devas gathered to bless Vamana and offer gifts. Surya Deva gave Vamana a Chhatra (umbrella), symbolizing radiance and protection. He said, "This umbrella will protect you from heat and difficulties, and will never let your radiance diminish." Guru Brihaspati gave a Yajnopavita, symbolizing Brahmacharya and knowledge. Mother Earth provided Him with a Mrigacharma (deer skin), symbolizing peace and spiritual practice. Indra, the king of heaven, gave Him sandals, which would aid Him in walking the path of Dharma. Kubera gave a Bhikshapatra (alms bowl) which would never be empty of food. Thus, all the Devas blessed Vamana and enriched Him with their power and knowledge. With Vishnu's blessings, Vamana's divine power increased even further.

Lord Vishnu had incarnated as Vamana through His Maya. His sole purpose was to remove Mahabali's ego and establish Dharma. The gifts given by the Devas were indeed the grace of Narayana, which would help Vamana fulfill His purpose.

Departure for Mahabali's Yajna

After receiving blessings from all the Devas, Vamana decided to depart for Mahabali's Yajna site. He had a small body, radiant eyes, and carried a Chhatra and a Kamandalu in His hands. Vamana slowly began to move towards His destination. A flow of divine energy surrounded Him, ready to protect Him from every obstacle. He knew that Mahabali was a powerful king, but his ego was becoming a hindrance on the path of Dharma. Vamana's mind was calm and resolute, as He knew His journey was for justice and Dharma. On the way, Vamana crossed many villages and cities. Everywhere, people were astonished to see Him, as they had never seen such a divine child before. Vamana blessed everyone and inspired them to walk on the path of Dharma and Truth.

Vamana's upcoming journey would bring a significant turning point in Mahabali's life. It was the beginning of a conflict, in which a decisive battle was to be fought between Dharma and ego, justice and injustice. Vamana's small form was a symbol of His infinite power and wisdom, sufficient to shatter Mahabali's ego.
