Chapter 1 of the Umiya Mata Katha — The Incarnation of Umiya Mata. This chapter narrates the story of Umiya Mata's manifestation and her divine origin.

The Incarnation of Umiya Mata

Peace prevailed on Mount Kailash, as if nature itself was engrossed in the worship of Lord Shiva. However, a deep concern was taking root in the hearts of the gods. The ego and anger of Daksha Prajapati had given rise to an event that had shaken the very foundations of creation. Now, this story leads us to the incarnation of Umiya Mata, the divine power that is a symbol of love, sacrifice, and devotion.

The Destruction of Daksha's Yajna

The sacrificial arena was filled with a crowd of gods and sages. The atmosphere, filled with fragrant incense and chanting, seemed pure and serene, but King Daksha's heart was filled with hatred for Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva, his son-in-law, had not been invited to the yajna, which was an insult to him. Sati, Daksha's daughter and Shiva's consort, could not bear this insult. Her mind wavered between her father's anger and her husband's love. Her eyes turned red with anger and despair.

"What is happening, Father?" Sati asked her father, Daksha. "Why have you deprived my husband of this sacred yajna? What offense has he committed against you? Disrespecting him is disrespecting me. Will you not even respect your own daughter?" Daksha replied with disdain, "He is a matted-haired ascetic smeared with ashes! He is not worthy of participating in my yajna. You, the daughter of a great Prajapati like me, are speaking his words, shame on you!"

Sati's Self-Immolation

For Sati, this insult was unbearable. Seeing the disrespect towards her husband and the ego of her father, she jumped into the sacrificial fire and gave up her life. "O Shiva!" she cried, "I renounce this body of insult. I will be yours in the next life too!" Chaos erupted in the sacrificial arena. The gods were stunned. The earth trembled. When Lord Shiva received this news, his anger erupted like a volcano. He created Veerabhadra and Bhadrakali, who destroyed Daksha's yajna and beheaded Daksha.

A wave of sorrow swept through the world with Sati's self-immolation. Her sacrifice showed that nothing is greater than love and respect. This incident made Lord Shiva even more detached, but at the same time, it was certain that Sati would be reborn so that she could reunite with Shiva and bring welfare to all beings. Through her death, Sati conveyed the message that ego and disrespect lead to destruction, and true devotion is supreme.

The Birth of Parvati

Sati was reborn as Parvati in the house of King Himavan and his wife Menaka. Parvati was devoted to Shiva from childhood. She knew that her life was meant for Shiva. The gods were relieved to know that Sati had returned, and now she would perform severe penance to attract Shiva, which would bring welfare to creation. Now, it remains to be seen how Parvati, through her penance, will win Shiva and be established as Umiya Mata. In the next chapter, we will see the story of Parvati's penance and her marriage to Shiva.

Summary of Chapter 1: In this chapter, we witnessed the story of Daksha's yajna, Sati's self-immolation, and Parvati's rebirth. Sati, through her sacrifice, highlighted the importance of love and respect, and her rebirth as Parvati brought hope for her union with Shiva and the welfare of creation. The lesson from this chapter is that ego is destructive, and true devotion is always fruitful.
