Tulsi Mata Katha – Chapter 1: Vrinda: A Virtuous Queen

Vrinda: A Virtuous Queen
From the beginning of creation, the conflict between righteousness and unrighteousness has been ongoing. The Earth, troubled by the wars between gods and demons, was waiting for a protector who could keep her safe. Against this backdrop, we begin the story of Vrinda, a virtuous queen with unwavering devotion to Lord Vishnu.
Absorbed in Devotion to Vishnu
Vrinda was born into a Brahmin family. From childhood, she was a supreme devotee of Lord Vishnu. Her heart was filled with devotion and love. Every morning, Vrinda would wake up, bathe, and then worship Lord Vishnu. A divine radiance emanated from her face, a testament to her deep faith. Her hymns and prayers would sanctify the entire atmosphere. Vrinda's mind was not occupied with worldly possessions, but rather with the feet of Lord Vishnu.
Vrinda would often remain absorbed in meditation for hours. Once, she became so engrossed in meditation that she lost all awareness of the world around her. When her mother shook her, she sat up startled, "Mother, I was having the vision of Lord Vishnu. His form was so radiant that my eyes were dazzled."
Marriage to Jalandhar
Time passed, and Vrinda grew into a young woman. The fame of her beauty and piety spread far and wide. One day, Jalandhar, the mighty king of the demons, heard about Vrinda. Jalandhar was known for his strength and valor. He sent a proposal of marriage to Vrinda. After consulting with her family, Vrinda decided to marry Jalandhar. She felt that by entering into the bond of marriage, she could bring Jalandhar onto the path of righteousness.
After the marriage, Vrinda told Jalandhar about the glory of Lord Vishnu and inspired him to follow the path of dharma. Due to the influence of Vrinda's devotion and penance, Jalandhar's strength increased even further. Through Vrinda's purity and penance, Jalandhar's power became invincible. It was believed that as long as Vrinda's devotion remained intact, Jalandhar could not be defeated by anyone. Vrinda used her devotion as a shield to protect her husband.
Jalandhar's Immense Power
Because of Vrinda's devotion, Jalandhar established his dominance over both gods and demons. His power grew so much that he even dared to attack heaven. Jalandhar's terror spread across all three worlds. The gods, terrified, sought refuge in Lord Vishnu. Vrinda's devotion was unwavering, and defeating Jalandhar seemed impossible. Vrinda's devotion was the secret to his strength. Jalandhar was becoming even more powerful due to the strength of Vrinda's chastity, which would later become a great crisis for the gods.
Summary of Chapter 1: In this chapter, we learned about Vrinda's unwavering devotion to Lord Vishnu and her marriage to Jalandhar. Vrinda's devotion unexpectedly increased Jalandhar's power, creating a grave situation for the gods. The power of devotion and its consequences are highlighted in this chapter.
