Sundarkand – Chapter 2: Entry into Lanka

Entry into Lanka
In the previous chapter, Hanuman made a wondrous leap from Mount Mahendra to Lanka. While flying over the ocean, he overcame the trials sent by gods and demons. Determined to find Mother Sita, the son of the wind god now stood at the gates of the city of Lanka, where he had to face many challenges.
At the Gates of Lankapuri
Lankapuri was made of gold, glittering in the sun's rays. High walls, strong fortresses, and countless guards were deployed to secure the city. Hanuman observed carefully; there was a hustle and bustle of demons all around. An atmosphere of fear and doubt prevailed, but Hanuman's heart was filled with love and devotion for Lord Rama. He realized the gravity of his task and was determined to overcome any obstacle.
Hanuman thought, "This city is both wondrous and terrifying. I must find a way to reach Mother Sita, no matter how much danger it involves. Chanting Lord Rama's name, I will make every difficulty easy."
Encounter with Lankini
As Hanuman attempted to enter Lanka, a demoness named Lankini stopped him. She was the gatekeeper of Lankapuri and was ordered to protect the city. Her body was huge and powerful, and her eyes were filled with anger. Lankini challenged Hanuman and asked who he was and where he was going. Hanuman humbly replied that he was a monkey messenger and had come in search of Mother Sita. Lankini did not believe Hanuman's words and attacked him.
A fierce battle ensued between the two. Hanuman, using his strength and intelligence, defeated Lankini. Lankini fell to the ground from Hanuman's blow. Then Hanuman reminded her of Rama's name and forgave her. Lankini accepted her defeat and allowed Hanuman to enter the city. Hanuman knew it was by Rama's grace that Lankini calmed down and gave way.
Entry in Subtle Form
After entering Lanka, Hanuman realized that it would be difficult to move around the city in a large form. Therefore, he transformed his body into a subtle form using his yogamaya. As a small monkey, Hanuman entered the city and set out in search of Mother Sita. He carefully looked into every lane and every house, but he found no trace of Mother Sita. Hanuman was astonished by the strange attire and terrifying behavior of the demons in the city, but he did not stray from his goal.
Now Hanuman will have to enter Ravana's palace and the Ashoka Vatika to find Mother Sita. His subtle form will help protect him from enemies and assist him in reaching Mother Sita. Hanuman was confident that by the grace of Lord Rama, he would surely find Mother Sita and deliver Rama's message to her.
Summary of Chapter 2: In this chapter, Hanuman enters Lanka, battles Lankini, and begins his search for Mother Sita by assuming a subtle form. This chapter teaches us that with devotion and determination, every obstacle can be overcome, and every task is successful by the grace of Lord Rama.
