During the journey of exile, the beauty of Panchavati was like a pleasant dream. Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita made that place their refuge, hoping to find a few moments of peace in the lap of nature. But where does happiness remain stable in the decree of destiny? The screenplay of the next chapter was being written by Ravana and his cunning conspiracies, which were to lead to the abduction of Sita.

The Illusion of the Golden Deer

One day in Panchavati, Sita saw a wonderful deer. Its body was adorned with gold, as if the very rays of the sun had descended upon the earth. There was a unique grace in its gait, and its eyes sparkled. Sita's heart was captivated by that deer. She urged Rama to catch that golden deer, as if her heart had become a slave to that illusory beauty. Rama, seeing Sita's love and happiness, was compelled, but an unknown apprehension had taken birth in his mind.

Sita said with distress, "Aryaputra, I have never seen such a beautiful deer before. Can you catch it and bring it? I want to raise it in our hermitage. It will enhance the beauty of our exile." Rama looked into Sita's eyes and said, "My dear, your heart knows that this deer is not ordinary. But your wish is paramount to me. I will chase it, but Lakshmana will remain here to protect you." Rama's mind was filled with apprehension of ill omen, but he hid his apprehension before Sita's happiness.

The Bond of Lakshmana Rekha

Rama went far away chasing the deer. Then Sita heard Rama's piteous cry. She became distressed and asked Lakshmana to go to Rama's aid. Lakshmana knew that there was some deception in this cry, but it was impossible for him to disobey Sita's command. He drew a line to protect Sita, which is called 'Lakshmana Rekha'. That line was a symbol of power and protection, a bond committed to saving Sita from any harm. Lakshmana told Sita not to cross that line under any circumstances.

Lakshmana said in a grave tone, "Mother, this line is protected by immense power. No unknown person will be able to cross it. You must not step outside this line under any circumstances. I am going in search of Brother Rama, and will return soon." Sita's heart was filled with uncertainty. Although there was reassurance in Lakshmana's voice, there was still unrest in her heart. This Lakshmana Rekha was not just a line; it was a test of Sita's patience, faith, and her unwavering love for Rama.

Ravana's Deception and the Abduction of Sita

As soon as Lakshmana left, Ravana came to Sita's hermitage disguised as a sage. He asked for alms. Sita did not want to disappoint a guest. Ravana forced her to cross the Lakshmana Rekha. As soon as Sita crossed the line, Ravana revealed his true form and abducted her. Sita trembled with fear, but she was helpless. Ravana took her towards Lanka in his Pushpak Vimana.
