Savitri Satyavan Story – Chapter 4: That Unfortunate Day

That Unfortunate Day
Three years had passed living in the forest. Savitri and Satyavan's love was unbreakable, but the prophecy kept pricking Savitri's mind like a thorn. As the days passed, that unfortunate day was getting closer, which was increasing Savitri's anxiety.
Departure to the Forest
The golden rays of the sun were spreading in the sky, and the sweet chirping of birds was echoing in the forest. Satyavan, with an axe on his shoulder, was ready to leave for the forest. There was enthusiasm in his eyes, and a calm smile on his face. Savitri, suppressing the fear hidden in her eyes, was looking at Satyavan. Her heart was trembling with fear, but she did not want to sadden her husband. She prayed to God to protect Satyavan.
Savitri said to Satyavan, "Dear, my mind is a little disturbed today. Please take care of yourself. I am worried about you." Satyavan smiled and replied, "Don't worry, dear. I will be back soon. You know, how will we live without cutting wood?" Savitri thought to herself, 'This is the worry that is eating me up, that this life is so short.'
Satyavan's Agitation
Satyavan was cutting wood in the forest. He was healthy and strong, but by noon he suddenly started feeling tired. His head started spinning, and he felt as if the whole world was spinning. He leaned against a tree, but his restlessness kept increasing. Sweat was pouring from his body, and he was groaning in pain.
Gradually Satyavan's consciousness faded. He felt as if some invisible force was pulling him towards itself. This was a sign from Yamraj, who was coming to take Satyavan's life. Satyavan called out to Savitri with despair in his eyes, as if wanting to see her one last time.
Last Breath in Savitri's Lap
Savitri, who had come to the forest behind Satyavan, ran to him seeing his restlessness. She laid Satyavan in her lap. Satyavan's body was getting cold, and his breath was getting ragged. Savitri sprinkled water on Satyavan's face in panic, but to no avail. Satyavan's eyes slowly closed, and he gave up his life in Savitri's lap. Savitri's world seemed to be destroyed. Tears started flowing from her eyes, but she did not lose courage. Her love for Satyavan was so deep that she decided to challenge even death.
Summary of Chapter 4: This chapter describes the death of Satyavan, which was a big blow to Savitri's life. But Savitri's love and determination gave her the power to fight Yama, the god of death. It teaches us that true love is more powerful than death and one should not give up in any situation.
