The Marriage of Sati and Shiva

Sati's rigorous penance bore fruit. Lord Shiva, moved by Sati's devotion and love, finally descended from Mount Kailash to grant her his presence. It was a magnificent sight, as if nature itself was eager to witness Sati's resolve. The story now moves to the marriage and its consequences.

Preparations for the Wedding

As soon as Shiva appeared before Sati and proposed marriage, Sati's joy knew no bounds. Tears of love and gratitude welled up in her eyes. Shiva's radiance was such that it seemed as if millions of suns were shining simultaneously, yet in Sati's heart, the feeling of love for him was paramount. When King Himalaya heard this auspicious news, his happiness was beyond description. He immediately began preparations for the wedding. The entire Himalayan mountain range was adorned with flowers and colorful flags.

"O Mahadev," Sati said lovingly, "my life will be meaningful only when I become your better half. My penance was solely to attain you." Shiva replied with a smile, "Devi, your love is my bond. I will always give you a place in my strength and in my heart."

The Union of Sati and Shiva

At the auspicious moment, the marriage of Sati and Shiva was solemnized. Gods, Gandharvas, Kinnaras, and Rishis and Munis gathered to witness this divine wedding. Lord Brahma conducted the wedding rituals, and Lord Vishnu performed the Kanyadaan (giving away the bride) of Sati. The wedding procession from Mount Kailash included ghosts, spirits, Ganas, and Nandi bulls, showcasing Shiva's unique form. After the wedding, Sati began to live with Shiva on Mount Kailash. The atmosphere of Kailash became even more divine with Sati's arrival.

Sati was a form of Mother Bhagavati herself, and thus, her marriage brought joy and prosperity to all the worlds. By her grace, balance was maintained in nature, and all beings found peace. The union of Shiva and Sati was a symbol of love and power.

Daksha's Wrath

Although all the gods were pleased with the marriage of Shiva and Sati, Sati's father, Daksha Prajapati, was displeased. Daksha considered Shiva a detached ascetic and yogi, who stayed away from royal grandeur. He did not like his daughter marrying someone who was detached from worldly pleasures. Daksha began to insult Shiva. He always spoke harsh words to him and constantly disrespected him. Daksha's ego grew, and he made every possible effort to belittle Shiva. This insult was unbearable for Sati, as she respected her father but could not tolerate the insult of her husband. This disrespect later became the cause of a major event.
