Purushottam Mas Katha: Adhyaya 7 | पुरुषोत्तम मास कथा: अध्याय 7

Lord Krishna gave the highest place to Malamasa by naming it "Purushottam Maas". In this month, devotees attain immense merit and salvation through chanting, charity, bathing, and worship.

Sootji said - O ascetic! The question that you people have asked is the same question that Narada asked Narayana, so I am telling you the same answer that Narayana gave.

Naradji said - When Vishnu, after expressing the immense sorrow of Adhimas, remained silent, then O Badrinath! What did Purushottam do? Please tell us this now.

Shrinarayan said - O son! What Goloknath Shri Krishna said to Vishnu is very secret, but it should be told to a devotee, believer, servant, non-hypocritical, and qualified person. Therefore, I will tell everything, listen.

This narrative bestows good fame, merit, glory, a good son, the ability to control the king, and destroys poverty, and is heard with great merit. Just as you hear it, you should also perform the actions you have heard with unwavering devotion.

Shri Purushottam said - O Vishnu! You have done a great job by bringing Malamasa here. By this, you will gain fame in the world. Understand that we have accepted the one whose salvation you have accepted. Therefore, we will make it supreme like ourselves. With qualities, the experience of fame, six opulence, valor, giving boons to devotees, and also the qualities that I have, I am famous in the world as Purushottam.

Similarly, this Malamasa will also be famous in the worlds as Purushottam. All the qualities that I have, I have given to it from today. Purushottam, which is my name famous in the world and in the Vedas, I have also given it to it today for the sake of your happiness. O Madhusudan! From today, I am also the lord of this Adhimas.

The whole world will be purified by its name Purushottam. By attaining my equality, this Adhimas will be the king of all months. This Adhimas will be worthy of being worshiped by the world and worshiped by the world. Those who worship and fast on it will have their sorrows and poverty destroyed. All the months from Chaitra onwards are with desires, we have made it desireless. We have made it capable of giving salvation to all beings like ourselves. The creature who worships Adhimas with or without desires will burn all his deeds and surely attain me.

For the attainment of that supreme state, the very fortunate, ascetics, celibates perform penance, and great souls observe fasting without food, and those with firm vows live by eating fruits, leaves, and air, and remain free from lust and anger, and control their senses, and those who live in the open during the rainy season, endure cold in winter, and heat in summer, keep striving for my abode, O Garudadhwaja! Even then, they do not attain my imperishable supreme abode, but the devotees of Purushottam, by fasting for just one month, will attain that supreme abode free from old age and death without any effort.

This Adhimas fast is the best means among all means and bestows the fulfillment of the fruits of all desires. Therefore, everyone should observe this Purushottam Maas fast. Just as seeds sown in the field with a plow increase crores of times, similarly, the merit done in my Purushottam Maas is crores of times more.

Some go to heaven by performing Chaturmasyadi Yagya, but they also come back to earth after enjoying pleasures. But the person who observes the Adhimas fast with respect and according to the rules, redeems his entire lineage and merges into me, there is no doubt about it. Having attained me, the creature does not come again into the world which is full of birth, death, fear, and afflicted with mental and physical ailments and old age. Where there is no fall after going, that is my supreme abode, such is the word of the Vedas, how can it be untrue?

This Adhimas and its lord is me and I have created it and Purushottam, this name of mine, I have also given it to it. Therefore, I am always concerned about its devotees day and night. I have to fulfill the desires of the minds of its devotees. Sometimes the offenses of my devotees are also counted, but I never count the offenses of the devotees of Purushottam Maas.

O Vishnu! I love to worship my devotees by worshiping me. I may be late in fulfilling the desires of my devotees, but I am never late in fulfilling the desires of the devotees of my month. The devotees of my month are very dear to me. Those who do not chant or donate in this Adhimas are great fools, and those creatures who are devoid of meritorious deeds do not even bathe and hate gods, pilgrimages, and Brahmins.

They are wicked, unfortunate, and live on the fate of others. Just as a rabbit does not have horns, similarly, those who do not bathe etc. in Adhimas do not get happiness even in a dream. Those fools who disrespect my beloved Malamasa and do not practice righteousness in Malamasa always go to hell.

Every third year, upon receiving Purushottam Maas, the creatures who do not practice righteousness fall into Kumbhipaka hell, and in this world, they suffer great sorrows arising from their wives, sons, grandsons, etc., sitting in the fire of sorrow. How can the creatures who spend this most virtuous Purushottam Maas of mine in ignorance enjoy happiness?

The fortunate women who desire good fortune and the happiness of a son, bathe, donate, worship, etc. in Adhimas, Adhimas gives them good fortune, complete wealth, and sons, etc. I do not remain favorable to those whose Purushottam Maas with my name passes without charity, etc., and they do not get the happiness of a husband, the happiness of brothers, sons, and wealth is rare even in a dream for them. Therefore, especially, all creatures should definitely bathe, worship, chant, etc. in Adhimas, and especially donate according to their ability.

Those who worship me with devotion in this Purushottam Maas, enjoy wealth, sons, and many pleasures and again become residents of Goloka. By my command, all people will worship my Adhimas. I have made it the best month of all months. Therefore, abandoning the worry of Adhimas, O Ramapati! Take this incomparable Purushottam Maas with you and go to your Vaikuntha.

Shrinarayan said - Hearing these delightful words from the mouth of Lord Krishna, Vishnu, with great joy, took this Malamasa with him, bowed to Lord Krishna, who was as dark as a new cloud, and mounted on Garuda and quickly set off towards Vaikuntha.
