Chandraghanta: Power and Peace

By performing severe penance as Brahmacharini, Parvati had resolved to have Lord Shiva as her husband. The three worlds were affected by the fire of her penance. All the gods and sages were praising her patience and devotion, as they knew that Lord Shiva's heart was about to melt, and creation was about to move towards a new joy.

The Auspicious Moment of Shiva's Wedding

There was an atmosphere of celebration on Mount Kailash. Gods, Gandharvas, Kinnaras, and all Shiva ganas were dancing and singing with joy. Lord Shiva was adorned as the groom, his Trishul and Damaru further enhancing his radiance. A sea of love and enthusiasm was surging in Parvati's heart, her companions were adorning her as the bride, as if an Apsara from heaven had descended to earth. There was a divine aura on her face, and her eyes reflected unwavering love for Shiva. The entire atmosphere was enchanting.

Parvati asked her companions, "Have they arrived? Have my Lord arrived?" One of her companions replied, "Yes, dear, they have arrived. In a little while, you two will unite, and joy will shower upon the three worlds." Her words made Parvati's heart even more joyful. She remembered Shiva in her mind and dedicated her life at his lotus feet.

The Manifestation of the Chandraghanta Form

The wedding of Shiva and Parvati was solemnized, but the atrocities of the demons were increasing. The gods were crying out in distress. Then, to protect her devotees and suppress the demons, Parvati assumed the form of Chandraghanta. A crescent moon in the shape of a bell was adorned on her forehead, symbolizing her power. She had ten hands, holding various weapons, and she rode a lion. Seeing her form, the demons trembled with fear. She shook the three worlds with her roar, and chaos ensued in the demon army.

By the grace of Goddess Chandraghanta, new strength was infused into the gods. With her blessings, the gods achieved victory over the demons and established Dharma. Goddess Chandraghanta conveyed the message of becoming fearless and powerful to her devotees. She said that whoever worships her with a true heart will never have any fear, and will be victorious in every situation. The coordination of her power and peace proved to be beneficial for the three worlds, spreading happiness and peace everywhere.

The Goddess's Suppression of Demons and Salvation of Gods

Goddess Chandraghanta fought a fierce battle with the demons. She annihilated the demon army with her weapons. By slaying Mahishasura and other powerful demons, she freed the gods from the atrocities of the demons. The gods praised Goddess Chandraghanta and thanked her. Now, as Goddess Kushmanda, she will create the universe, illuminating the cosmos with her divine radiance, and we will describe the glory of this form in the next chapter.
