Lanka Victory Story – Chapter 2: Sita Swayamvar Story

Sita Swayamvar Story
Ram, the eldest son of Ayodhya's King Dasharatha, and his younger brother Lakshman were proceeding towards Mithila city with Sage Vishwamitra. The thorny paths of the forest, where there was fear of demons, were now left behind, and their steps were moving towards a new chapter – Sita's Swayamvar, where the Almighty had created a wonderful play of Ram and Sita's union.
Arrival in Janakpuri
As soon as Ram, Lakshman, and Vishwamitra reached Janakpuri, they were captivated by the beauty of the city. Palaces adorned with golden urns, gardens laden with flowers, and an atmosphere resounding with Vedic chants, all together created a divine experience. The people of Janakpuri were known for their King Janak's piety and sense of justice, and their city was also decorated accordingly. Seeing Ram's calm and radiant face, feelings of reverence arose in the hearts of the people.
Vishwamitra said to Ram, "Ram, this is Mithila city, the land of King Janak. The land here is sacred and the people here are righteous. We have come here to participate in Sita's Swayamvar, which is an important part of your destiny." Ram replied calmly, "Gurudev, I am ready to walk under your guidance. Whatever destiny wills, will happen."
Breaking of Shiva's Bow
The next day in the Swayamvar pavilion, King Janak announced, "Whichever brave warrior lifts this Shiva bow and strings it, will be chosen by my daughter Sita." One by one, many kings and princes came, but none had the strength to lift the bow. The bow was so heavy that they could not even touch it, let alone move it. King Janak became disappointed and began to say, "Is there no brave warrior worthy of my daughter? Has the earth become empty of heroes?"
Vishwamitra ordered Ram, "Ram, rise and string the Shiva bow." Obeying his guru's command, Ram rose and walked towards the Shiva bow. He lifted the bow with great ease. As soon as he pulled the bow to string it, it broke with a terrible roar! The entire pavilion echoed with that sound.
Ram-Sita Marriage
As soon as the news of the breaking of Shiva's bow reached Sita, a wave of joy ran through her heart. She knew that Ram was her life partner. King Janak immediately sent a message to Ayodhya's King Dasharatha and respectfully invited him to Janakpuri. Then, Ram and Sita's marriage was solemnized according to rituals. Joy spread throughout the entire universe, the gods showered flowers, and the Gandharvas sang sweet music. Ram and Sita's union was a divine event, which paved the way for the establishment of Dharma in the times to come.
