Goddess Lakshmi Story – Chapter 6: Devotion and Worship

Devotion and Worship
Afflicted by the curse of neglect, wandering from village to village, Ramesh came to know that only the worship of Mother Lakshmi could free him from this misfortune. He made a firm resolve that he would now worship Mother Lakshmi with complete devotion. His heart was filled with remorse, and his soul yearned to surrender at the feet of the Mother.
Various Ways of Lakshmi Puja
Ramesh reached a small village. He set up his camp under a Peepal tree on the outskirts of the village. As soon as morning arrived, he bathed, donned clean clothes, and went to the village temple. In the temple, he saw people worshipping Mother Lakshmi in various ways. Some were decorating the Mother's idol with beautiful clothes, some were offering garlands of flowers, and some were lighting ghee lamps, whose light illuminated the temple atmosphere. The fragrance of incense and agarbatti spread all around, making the atmosphere devotional.
Ramesh saw an elderly woman singing Aarti for the Mother with great affection. Ramesh asked her, "Mother, what is the best way to receive Mother Lakshmi's grace?" The elderly woman smiled and replied, "Son, Mother Lakshmi is hungry for devotion. She surely hears the call of anyone who calls upon her with true faith and love. You can recite the Shri Sukta, or read the Lakshmi Chalisa. The important thing is that your mind is pure and your intentions are clear."
Chanting Lakshmi Mantras
Ramesh listened carefully to the elderly woman's words and from that very day, he began chanting Lakshmi mantras. He would sit under the Peepal tree in the morning and evening and chant the mantra "Om Shreem Hreem Kleem Shreem Siddha Lakshmyai Namah". He gave up food and subsisted only on fruits and water. Gradually, his mind began to calm down, and he experienced a wonderful sense of peace. One day, while chanting, he felt as if Mother Lakshmi herself had appeared before him.
Mother Lakshmi appeared to Ramesh and said, "O devotee, I am pleased with your devotion and penance. You have repented for your deeds, and now you are worthy of my blessings. I bless you with wealth, grain, and prosperity." Tears welled up in Ramesh's eyes. He fell at the Mother's feet and expressed his gratitude. He realized that truly, with sincere devotion, everything is possible. Receiving the Mother's blessings, a wonderful light spread around him.
Diwali and Other Festivals
Time passed. The festival of Diwali arrived. Ramesh decorated the entire village with lamps. Rangoli was made, and sweets were prepared in every home. Everyone worshipped Mother Lakshmi together. Ramesh specially organized Lakshmi Puja and donated to the poor. That day, joy was celebrated in the village, and happiness and prosperity came to every home. After Diwali, every year, Lakshmi Puja and other festivals began to be celebrated with great fanfare in the village. Ramesh understood that Mother Lakshmi is not just the goddess of wealth, she is also the goddess of love, compassion, and forgiveness. With true worship, one can attain happiness and peace in life. Now, Ramesh realized that this was just the beginning of devotion and worship, and the attainment of knowledge was still to come. He knew that only with Mother Lakshmi's grace would he receive true knowledge.
