Krishna's Peace Proposal

Under the guidance of Parashurama, the Pandavas intensified their military preparations, but Yudhishthira's heart still yearned for peace. He knew the horrors of war and understood that immense loss would occur on both sides. Amidst this turmoil, Lord Krishna decided to go to Hastinapur to avert the war of Kurukshetra.

Krishna's Arrival in Hastinapur

Lord Krishna's arrival in Hastinapur was a significant moment. As his chariot entered the city, kicking up dust, a profound peace descended. People eagerly came out of their homes to catch a glimpse of the Lord of Dwarka. Krishna's radiant face and calm demeanor attracted everyone. A glimpse of the future was visible in his eyes, and people looked at him with a mixture of hope and apprehension.

As Krishna entered the royal assembly, Bhishma Pitamah, Dhritarashtra, Vidura, and other elders welcomed him. Dhritarashtra offered him a seat and inquired about his well-being. Krishna spoke in a grave tone, "Maharaj, I have come here to stop the war and establish peace. The Pandavas are merely asking for their rightful share, nothing more. True welfare lies in peace."

Duryodhana's Arrogance

Upon hearing Krishna's peace proposal, Duryodhana was filled with anger. His arrogance blinded him to the truth. He remained seated on the throne and, looking at Krishna with disdain, said, "O Krishna, you are biased towards the Pandavas. They are not entitled to the kingdom. I have acquired this kingdom through my own strength, and I will not give it to anyone. Not even land the size of a needle's point will be given to the Pandavas."

Hearing him, Krishna calmly replied, "Duryodhana, arrogance blinds a person. You are choosing the path of your own destruction. Do justice to the Pandavas, otherwise, you and your lineage will have to bear the consequences of this injustice." There was a profound impact in Krishna's voice, which was felt by everyone present in the assembly. Yet, Krishna's words had no effect on Duryodhana. Krishna knew that reasoning with Duryodhana was futile, but he had fulfilled his duty. Seeing Duryodhana's obstinacy, it became clear to Krishna that war was now inevitable.

Vidura's Advice

Seeing Duryodhana's arrogance, Vidura was deeply saddened. He said to Dhritarashtra, "Maharaj, Duryodhana is heading towards destruction. Stop him. Accept Krishna's peace proposal; Hastinapur's welfare lies in it." Vidura was a master of policy and dharma; his words held truth, and he was a well-wisher of the Kuru dynasty. Dhritarashtra, blinded by paternal affection, ignored Vidura's words. Vidura knew that this decision would be disastrous for his lineage.

Vidura said to Krishna in private, "O Krishna, my heart knows that war is inevitable, but I hope that your efforts will bring about some peace." Krishna replied, "Vidura, I have fulfilled my duty. Now destiny will choose its path. The account of karma will surely be settled." There was an expression of compassion on Krishna's face, which calmed Vidura's mind. Krishna understood that it was impossible to bring about a change in Duryodhana's heart, and now preparation for war was the only option. Krishna decided to return to the Pandavas to strategize for the war, as Duryodhana had closed the path to peace.
