Kaliya Naag Daman Katha, Chapter 1 — The Poisonous Water of Vrindavan. The Yamuna River in Vrindavan becomes poisonous due to the venom of Kaliya Naag, causing distress to people and animals.

The Poisonous Water of Vrindavan

In the previous story, we described the atrocities of Kansa and the arrival of child Krishna in Vrindavan. Vrindavan, the abode of love and joy, was now about to face a new challenge. The Yamuna River, which was life-giving, had been contaminated with a terrible poison.

The Poison of the Yamuna

The Yamuna River of Vrindavan, once known for its cleanliness and coolness, had now turned deep blue, as if the anger of a demon had entered it. Dead fish were floating on the banks, and a sharp, unbearable odor filled the air. Birds hovered in the sky, fleeing from the water of the river, as if they too could feel its terrible effect. The residents of Vrindavan, who could not even imagine their lives without the Yamuna, were filled with fear and despair.

An old Gopi, Lalita, groaned as she saw the contaminated water of the Yamuna, "O Yamuna Maiya, what kind of calamity is this? What sin have we committed that you have punished us in this way?" Tears were in her eyes, which mingled with the poisonous water of the Yamuna.

The Outbreak of Disease

As the days passed, the poisonous water of the Yamuna spread throughout Vrindavan. People and animals, who were unknowingly consuming that water, began to fall ill. Children were experiencing vomiting and fever, and adults were experiencing unbearable stomach pain. Cows, which were a symbol of Vrindavan's prosperity, became weak and began to fall, and poisonous elements were found in their milk. There was chaos in Vrindavan, and everyone was running here and there to save their lives.

In this terrible situation, there was no limit to the concern of Nand and Yashoda. They made every effort to keep their sons Krishna and Balram safe, but they were disturbed to see the suffering of all the residents of Vrindavan. Yashoda, holding Krishna in her arms, said, "O my beloved Kanha, save us from this calamity. The people of Vrindavan are under your refuge."

Worry and Anxiety

The suffering of the residents of Vrindavan and the poisonous water of the Yamuna deeply affected Krishna's child heart. He looked at Mother Yashoda with a firm resolve in his eyes. The next chapter will tell us how Krishna faces this serious situation and how he saves Vrindavan from this poisonous crisis. Will child Krishna purify the Yamuna with his Leela?

Summary of Chapter 1: This chapter describes the poisoning of the Yamuna River and the spread of disease in Vrindavan. It shows that difficulties in God's Leela are also a test of devotion to Him, and God is always with His devotees in their trials.
