Goddess Kali Katha – Chapter 6: Worship of Goddess Kali

Worship of Kali Mata
After beholding the fierce yet compassionate form of Dakshina Kali, devotees were eager to know the method of her worship. How can that immense power be pacified, how can her grace be attained – this question echoed in every heart. Let us now proceed and learn about the worship method of Kali Mata.
Method of Worship of Kali Mata
A quiet, sacred place, preferably a temple or a clean room, was suitable for the worship of Kali Mata. It was necessary to bathe before sunrise and wear pure clothes. Incense and lamps were lit to bring fragrance and purity to the atmosphere. Red flowers, especially hibiscus, were extremely dear to Kali Mata, so they were offered. A feeling of reverence and devotion in the heart was essential.
A devotee, Ramdas, approached the priest with a mind full of doubt, "Pandit ji, I have heard that the worship of Kali Mata is difficult, is this true? Can an ordinary person worship her?" The priest smiled and said, "Ramdas, it is true that Kali Maa is an immense power, but she is quickly pleased with her devotees. There is no need to be afraid, every worship done with reverence and faith is accepted by her."
Importance of Mantras and Chanting
Chanting of Kali Mata's mantras is considered extremely powerful. The most prevalent mantra is "Om Kreem Kalike Swaha". Chanting this mantra dispels fear, destroys negative energy, and provides inner strength. A mala is used while chanting, to keep the mind focused. Each bead symbolizes one chant. Devotees chant 108 times or more according to their faith and capacity. The sound of the mantra recitation permeates the entire atmosphere, creating a wonderful flow of energy.
When the priest began chanting the mantra "Om Kreem Kalike Swaha", it felt as if a vibration spread throughout the temple. The flame of the lamp intensified, and a sense of peace spread across the faces of the devotees. One devotee experienced that fear and anxiety seemed to vanish from his heart, as if Mother Kali herself had granted him fearlessness!
Welfare of Devotees
The welfare of devotees is achieved through the worship of Kali Mata. She protects her devotees from fear, disease, and negative forces. She bestows strength, courage, and confidence. Her grace brings happiness, peace, and prosperity into life. Kali Mata shows her devotees the right path and leads them from darkness to light. Worship done with true reverence and devotion is never fruitless. She always cares for her devotees and fulfills their wishes.
The worship of Kali Mata brings a ray of hope into the lives of devotees. However, remember, her worship is fruitful only when the heart is pure and the intention is noble. Now it is time to see how Kali Mata triumphs over darkness, which is described in the next chapter.
