Kali's Wrath and Tandava

In the previous chapter, we saw how Mother Kali assumed a terrifying form to destroy the demons. She defeated formidable demons like Chand, Mund, and Raktabija with her immense power. However, even after the end of the war, Kali's wrath did not subside; instead, it intensified.

The End of Annihilation, The Beginning of Wrath

The battlefield was stained with the blood of demons. Kali's sword was still dripping with blood. Her eyes were like burning flames, and her breath was like a fierce storm. She wore a garland of severed demon heads, which made her terrifying form even more fearsome. A continuous 'Hum' sound emanated from her mouth, echoing throughout the universe. A dreadful silence pervaded around Kali, poised to break at any moment. The gods and sages, filled with fear, closed their eyes. They knew that Kali's wrath had the potential to destroy the entire universe.

“What is happening? Will Mother's wrath not subside even after destroying the demons?” Indra asked in a fearful tone. “If Mother Kali's anger continues to grow like this, it will consume the entire Earth and even the heavens,” Narada Muni expressed his concern. They all began to think of ways to pacify Mother Kali, but no solution came to mind.

Kali's Tandava, Chaos on Earth

Suddenly, Mother Kali began her Tandava dance. As her feet touched the earth, the ground trembled, and mountains shook. Fierce tides rose in the ocean, and lightning flashed in the sky. Each of her steps was a symbol of destruction. Her Tandava caused immense suffering. Chaos erupted on Earth. People trembled with fear and hid in their homes. Birds and animals cried out and flew into the sky. A scene of devastation unfolded all around.

Mother Kali's wrath was so terrible that the balance of the Earth began to falter due to her Tandava. Rivers deviated from their courses, and forests caught fire. An atmosphere of despair and fear spread everywhere. However, a ray of hope existed in the hearts of the devotees. They believed that Mother Kali would surely be pacified and stop this destruction with her benevolent gaze. They continuously chanted Mother's name and prayed to her to calm her wrath and save the Earth.

Creation Moving Towards Destruction

The speed of Kali's Tandava was increasing, and creation was heading towards destruction. The gods prayed to Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh to do something to stop this devastation. Lord Brahma said that only Shiva could pacify Kali's wrath. Lord Vishnu prayed to Lord Shiva to calm Kali and save creation from destruction. All eyes were now turned towards Mount Kailash, where Lord Shiva was immersed in his meditation.
