Chapter 7 : Gyaan Vigyaan Yoga – अध्याय ७: ज्ञानविज्ञानयोग
The Blessed Lord said: O Partha, hear how, with your mind attached to Me, practicing Yoga and taking refuge in Me, you shall know Me in entirety, without any doubt.

śrībhagavānuvāca mavyāsaktamanāḥ pārtha yogaṁ yuñjanmadāśrayaḥ . asaṁśayaṁ samagraṁ māṁ yathā jñāsyasi tacchṛṇu ..

The Lord said: O Partha! Listen to how you, with your mind attached to Me with unwavering love and devoted to Me, engaged in yoga, will know Me in entirety, endowed with all glories, strength, opulence, and as the Self of all, without any doubt. || 1 ||

jñānaṁ te'haṁ savijñānamidaṁ vakṣyāmyaśeṣataḥ . yajjñātvā neha bhūyo'nyajñjātavyamavaśiṣyate ..

I will tell you this knowledge along with realization in its entirety, knowing which nothing else remains to be known in this world. || 2 ||

manuṣyāṇāṁ sahastreṣu kaścidyatati siddhaye . yatatāmapi siddhānāṁ kaścinmāṁ vetti tattvataḥ ..

Among thousands of men, one strives for perfection, and even among those striving yogis, one, devoted to Me, knows Me in truth, that is, in reality. || 3 ||

bhūmirāpo'nalo vāyuḥ khaṁ mano buddhireva ca. ahaṅkāra itīyaṁ me bhinnā prakṛtiraṣṭadhā ..
apareyamitastvanyāṁ prakṛtiṁ viddhi me parām . jīvabhūtāṁ mahābāho yayedaṁ dhāryate jagat ..

Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intellect, and ego – in this way, this is My nature divided into eight parts. This eightfold division is My lower, that is, inert nature, and O mighty-armed! Know My higher, that is, conscious nature, which is the life-element by which this entire world is sustained. || 4-5 ||

etadyonīni bhūtāni sarvāṇītyupadhāraya. ahaṁ kṛtstrasya jagataḥ prabhavaḥ pralayastathā ..

O Arjuna! Understand that all beings originate from these two natures, and I am the origin and dissolution of the entire world, that is, I am the root cause of the entire world. || 6 ||

mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyatkiñcidasti dhanañjaya. mayi sarvamidaṁ protaṁ sūtre maṇigaṇā iva ..

O Dhananjaya! There is no other supreme cause different from Me. This entire world is strung on Me like beads on a thread. || 7 ||

raso'hamapsu kaunteya prabhāsmi śaśisūryayoḥ . praṇavaḥ sarvavedeṣu śabdaḥ khe pauruṣaṁ nṛṣu ..

O Arjuna! I am the taste in water, the light in the moon and the sun, the Om in all the Vedas, the sound in the ether, and the manhood in men. || 8 ||

puṇyo gandhaḥ pṛthivyāṁ ca tejascāsmi vibhāvasau. jīvanaṁ sarvabhūteṣu tapaścāsmi tapasviṣu ..

I am the pure fragrance in the earth and the heat in the fire, and I am the life in all beings and the austerity in the ascetics. || 9 ||

bījaṁ māṁ sarvabhūtānāṁ viddhi pārtha sanātanam. buddhirbuddhimatāmasmi tejastejasvināmaham ..

O Arjuna! Know Me to be the eternal seed of all beings. I am the intelligence of the intelligent and the splendor of the splendid. || 10 ||

balaṁ balavatāṁ cāhaṁ kāmarāgavivarjitam . dharmāviruddho bhūteṣu kāmo'smi bharatarṣabha ..

O best of the Bharatas! I am the strength of the strong, devoid of attachment and desires, and I am the desire in all beings that is in accordance with dharma, that is, in accordance with the scriptures. || 11 ||

ye caiva sāttvikā bhāvā rājasāstāmasāśca ye. matta eveti tānviddhi na tvahaṁ teṣu te mayi ..

And also, whatever states of being are born of sattva guna, and whatever states are born of rajo guna and tamo guna, know them all to be born of Me, but in reality, I am not in them, nor are they in Me. || 12 ||

tribhirguṇamayairbhāvairebhiḥ sarvamidaṁ jagat. mohitaṁ nābhijānāti māmebhyaḥ paramavyayam

This entire world, the community of beings, is deluded by these three types of states of being, which are the effects of the gunas – sattvic, rajasic, and tamasic. Therefore, it does not know Me, the imperishable, who is beyond these three gunas. || 13 ||

daivī hoṣā guṇamayī mama māyā duratyayā. māmeva ye prapadyante māyāmetāṁ taranti te ..

Because this divine, that is, exceedingly wonderful, three-fold Maya of Mine is very difficult to overcome; but those who constantly worship Me alone, they cross over this Maya, that is, they are liberated from the world. || 14 ||

na māṁ duṣkṛtino mūḍhāḥ prapadyante narādhamāḥ . māyayāpahṛtajñānā āsuraṁ bhāvamāśritāḥ ..

The deluded, the lowest of men, whose knowledge has been stolen by Maya, who are of demonic nature, and who commit evil deeds, do not worship Me. || 15 ||

caturvidhā bhajante māṁ janāḥ sukṛtino'rjuna . ārto jijñāsurarthārthī jñānī ca bharatarṣabha ..

O best of the Bharata dynasty, Arjuna! Four types of devotees, those who perform virtuous deeds, worship Me: the distressed, the seeker of knowledge, the seeker of wealth, and the wise. || 16 ||

teṣāṁ jñānī nityayukta ekabhaktirviśiṣyate. priyo hi jñānino'tyarthamahaṁ sa ca mama priyaḥ

Of these, the wise devotee, who is ever united with Me and has unwavering loving devotion, is the most excellent, for I am exceedingly dear to the wise, who knows Me in truth, and he is exceedingly dear to Me. || 17 ||

udārāḥ sarva evaite jñānī tvātmaiva me matam . āsthitaḥ sa hi yuktātmā māmevānuttamāṁ gatim ..

All these are noble, but the wise one is verily My own Self – this is My opinion; because that wise devotee, with his mind and intellect fixed on Me, is well-established in Me alone, who am the supreme goal. || 18 ||

bahūnāṁ janmanāmante jñānavānmāṁ prapadyate. vāsudevaḥ sarvamiti sa mahātmā sudurlabhaḥ ..

At the end of many births, the man of wisdom worships Me, realizing that everything is Vasudeva. Such a great soul is very rare. || 19 ||

kāmaistaistairhṛtajñānāḥ prapadyante'nyadevatāḥ . taṁ taṁ niyamamāsthāya prakṛtyā niyatāḥ svayā ..

Those whose knowledge has been stolen by various desires, impelled by their own nature, resort to other deities, observing various rules, that is, they worship them. || 20 ||

yo yo yāṁ yāṁ tarnu bhaktaḥ śraddhayārcitumicchati. tasya tasyācalāṁ śraddhāṁ tāmeva vidadhāmyaham ..

Whichever form of whichever deity a devotee desires to worship with faith, I make that faith of his steady in that very deity. || 21 ||

sa tayā śraddhayā yuktastasyārādhanamīhate. labhate ca tataḥ kāmānmayāiva vihitānhitaān ..

Endowed with that faith, he worships that deity and undoubtedly obtains from that deity the desired enjoyments, which are ordained by Me alone. || 22 ||

antavattu phalaṁ teṣāṁ tadbhavatyalpamedhasām . devāndevayajo yānti madbhaktā yānti māmapi ..

But that fruit of those of small understanding is perishable, and the worshippers of the deities go to the deities, and My devotees, however they worship, ultimately come to Me alone. || 23 ||

avyaktaṁ vyaktimāpannaṁ manyante māmabuddhayaḥ . paraṁ bhāvamajānanto mamāvyayamanuttamam ..

The unintelligent, not knowing My supreme, imperishable, and unsurpassed state, think of Me, the Supreme Being, beyond the mind and senses, as having become manifest in a personal form, as if born like a human being. || 24 ||

nāhaṁ prakāśaḥ sarvasya yogamāyāsamāvṛtaḥ . mūḍho'yaṁ nābhijānāti loko māmajamavyayam ..

Concealed by My Yoga-Maya, I am not manifest to all; therefore, this ignorant world does not know Me, the unborn, the imperishable Supreme Lord, that is, it considers Me to be born and to die. || 25 ||

vedāhaṁ samatītāni vartamānāni cārjuna . bhaviṣyāṇi ca bhūtāni māṁ tu veda na kaścana ..

O Arjuna! I know all beings, past, present, and future, but no one without faith and devotion knows Me. || 26 ||

icchādveṣasamutthena dvandvamohena bhārata . sarvabhūtāni sammohaṁ sarge yānti parantapa ..

O Arjuna, scion of the Bharata dynasty! All beings in this world are greatly deluded by the delusion of duality arising from desire and aversion. || 27 ||

yeṣāṁ tvantagataṁ pāpaṁ janānāṁ puṇyakarmaṇām . te dvandvamohanirmuktā bhajante māṁ dṛḍhavratāḥ ..

But those men whose sins have come to an end, who perform noble deeds without any selfish motive, are freed from the delusion of duality arising from attachment and aversion, and worship Me with firm resolve in every way. || 28 ||

jarāmaraṇamokṣāya māmāśritya yatanti ye. te brahā tadviduḥ kṛtstramadhyātmaṁ karma cākhilam ..

Those who, taking refuge in Me, strive for liberation from old age and death, they know that Brahman, the entire Self, and all actions. || 29 ||

sādhibhūtādhidaivaṁ māṁ sādhiyajñaṁ ca ye viduḥ . prayāṇakāle'pi ca māṁ te viduryuktacetasaḥ ..

Those who know Me (the Self of all) with the adhibhuta, the adhidaiva, and the adhiyajna, they, with their minds united, know Me even at the time of death, that is, they attain Me. || 30 ||

oṁ tatsaditi śrīmadbhagavadgītāsūpaniṣatsu brahmavidyāyāṁ yogaśāstre śrīkṛṣṇārjunasaṁvāde jñānavijñānayogo nāma saptamo'dhyāyaḥ .. 7 ..
