Govardhan Parvat Katha – Chapter 4: Krishna Lifts Govardhan

Krishna Lifted Govardhan
Distressed by the terrible rain, the people of Gokul were looking at Kanha in fear. Indra's wrath was at its peak, and every moment seemed apocalyptic. The continuous downpour since last night had decided to drown Gokul, and people felt that this was their end.
The Shadow of Govardhan Mountain
Kanha saw a ray of hope in everyone's eyes. He knew that something had to be done now. Reassuring the cowherds and gopis, he said, "Don't be afraid! I am here! This is Indra's anger, but not greater than the power of love and devotion." There was amazing confidence in his voice, which was calming the frightened people. Kanha had a smile on his face, as if he was going to play a game, while in reality he had the burden of protecting the entire Gokul on his shoulders. The heavy showers of rain were drenching his dark face, but his eyes were steady and firm.
Kanha thought to himself, "Indra is immersed in ego. He has to show his power, but he does not know that all power is useless before love. I will show him that he does not have a monopoly on nature, and it is my duty to protect Gokul." Then he said in a loud voice, "Everyone go towards Govardhan Mountain! They will protect us!"
Krishna Holding the Mountain
In a moment, Kanha lifted the huge Govardhan Mountain on his little finger. Everyone was astonished to see this sight. Old, young, women - everyone was stunned to see Kanha's amazing power. This was no ordinary task; only an incarnation of God could do this. As soon as he lifted the mountain, Kanha called the people of Gokul to take shelter under the mountain. "Come! Everyone come under the mountain! Indra's rain will have no effect here!"
The people of Gokul slowly started gathering under the mountain. They came with their animals and belongings and stood in the safe place created by Kanha. Kanha said with a smile, "Don't be afraid! I will hold this mountain until Indra's anger subsides. This is my promise!" By Kanha's grace, all the people of Gokul were safe. Despite the intensity of the rain, there was an atmosphere of peace and security under the mountain.
Indra's Defeat
Indra, who was intoxicated with the pride of his power, was surprised to see that a boy had thwarted his rain. All his efforts were in vain. He understood that he was not dealing with an ordinary person. Gradually, Indra's anger subsided and he realized his mistake. He understood that he had accepted defeat before Kanha's power. But still a small part of ego remained in his mind. Will Indra accept his defeat? Will he ask Krishna for forgiveness? This question will be answered in the next chapter, where Indra's ego will be broken and he will gain knowledge of the truth.
Summary of Chapter 4: In this chapter, Krishna saved the people of Gokul from Indra's wrath by lifting the Govardhan Mountain. This event is a symbol of the victory of love and devotion over power. It teaches us that God always protects his devotees, and the destruction of ego is certain.
