Gokul: Indra's Vedic Pride

The sun was moving towards the horizon, and preparations for the festival in Gokul were at their peak. There was hustle and bustle in Yashoda Maiya's courtyard, the Gopis were decorating Rangoli, and the cowherds were busy gathering materials for the worship of Indradev. Like every year, a special event was being organized this year as well to please Indradev, so that there would be plenty of rain and prosperity would remain in Gokul.

Grand Preparation for Indra Puja

The village of Gokul seemed to be wrapped in a golden aura. There was an atmosphere of joy and devotion in every house. Colorful flags were waving in the air, and the fragrance of flowers was sanctifying the atmosphere. The Gopis, dressed in beautiful clothes, with henna on their hands, were singing songs. Old and young, everyone was eager to participate in this festival. Yashoda Maiya herself was busy preparing for the worship, making delicious dishes to offer to the deities. Her mind was filled with affection for her beloved Krishna, but also with reverence for Indradev.

Yashoda Maiya was thinking in her mind, "It is only by the grace of Indradev that our livestock remain healthy, and our crops flourish. We should not leave any deficiency in his worship." Just then she heard Krishna's sweet voice, "Mother, what is special today? What is this pomp and show about?"

Krishna's Question: Is This the Only Way?

Bal Krishna, with his sweet smile, came to Yashoda Maiya and asked her about Indra Puja. He asked spontaneously, "Mother, why do we worship Indradev every year? Is rain only caused by him? And does our prosperity depend only on his grace?" These questions of Krishna brought silence to the atmosphere for a moment. The Gops and cowherds started looking at each other. Yashoda Maiya was also speechless for a moment.

Krishna's divine aura had become even more intense at that time. An ocean of knowledge and love was waving in his eyes. The Gopis felt as if Narayan himself was sitting among them, asking them the path of truth. This question of Krishna was not just a question of a child, but a declaration of a deep ideology.

Opposition to Indra's Praise: The Importance of Nature and Karma

Nand Baba became a little worried after hearing Krishna's question. Explaining to Krishna, he said, "Son, Indradev is the king of the gods. Praising him is our tradition. We should respect the gods." But Krishna humbly replied, "Father, I am not disrespecting the gods. I just want to know whether we do not get the fruits of our deeds? Is our Govardhan Parvat, which gives us food and water, not worthy of our reverence?" These arguments of Krishna forced the people of Gokul to think. They began to understand that perhaps Krishna was pointing towards a new path, a path that shows the importance of nature and karma. He opposed the praise of Indra, but churning definitely started in everyone's mind.
