Dhruva Bhakta Katha – Chapter 1: Rejection and Dhruva's Resolve

Rejection and Dhruva's Resolve
King Uttanpad was ruling justly with his two wives - Suruchi and Suniti. Suruchi was the king's favorite wife, due to which she received special respect in the palace, while Suniti was of a calm nature, but the king's less favorite wife. Destiny turned such a cycle that an incident changed the direction of young Dhruva's life.
Insult in the Royal Court
In the royal court, King Uttanpad was sitting with his beloved son Uttam in his lap. Uttam was Suruchi's son. At the same time, five-year-old Dhruva, who was Suniti's son, came running with the desire to sit in his father's lap. The desire to get his father's love was clearly visible in his eyes. Dhruva reached out to the king with a naive smile, as if saying, "Father, please seat me next to you too." Everyone present in the assembly was looking at Dhruva with affectionate eyes. But, Suruchi could not tolerate such love and affection. A flame of anger blazed in her eyes.
Suruchi harshly grabbed young Dhruva and pulled him away, saying, "Dhruva! You have no right to touch the king's throne. You are born in a low family. Only my son has this right. If you want to sit on the throne, then you will have to be born from my womb!" Her words pierced Dhruva's heart like an arrow. Tears filled Dhruva's innocent eyes. He could not understand what crime he had committed because of which he was getting so much rejection.
Mother Suniti's Advice
Crying, Dhruva went to his mother Suniti. Suniti hugged her son and lovingly wiped away his tears. Dhruva told his mother about the insult in the royal court. Suniti's heart melted with her son's sorrow, but she did not lose courage. She explained to Dhruva that fate can be changed. Suniti said, "Son, Suruchi's words are harsh, but true. You will have to do penance to get the throne. Worship Lord Vishnu. He will fulfill your wish."
Suniti described the glory of Lord Vishnu to Dhruva. She told him that Vishnu is the protector of the creation and he is always ready to protect his devotees. Suniti taught her son to walk on the path of righteousness and never harbor malice in his heart. Dhruva listened carefully to his mother's words. Faith in Lord Vishnu arose in his mind and he decided to do penance. He asked his mother for blessings so that he could succeed in achieving his goal. Suniti blessed her son and allowed him to go to the forest. She said, "Son, Lord Vishnu will protect you."
Departure to the Forest
Dhruva took leave from his mother and set off towards the forest. His small mind was full of confidence. On the way, he saw many types of forests, but his attention was only on Lord Vishnu. He had firmly resolved in his mind that he would return only after pleasing Lord Vishnu. Seeing Dhruva's determination and devotion, nature was also ready to help him. He easily found fruits and water on the way.
Dhruva's only goal was to see Lord Vishnu. He was confident that his devotion would surely be successful. This unwavering faith of young Dhruva took him forward. It was by the grace of Vishnu that Dhruva found the path of penance at such a young age and decided to take refuge in God instead of taking revenge for his insult. Now this child needed guidance, and soon Vishnu arranged for it.
Summary of Chapter 1: In this chapter, we saw that Dhruva was insulted in the royal court and he consulted his mother Suniti.
