Dattatreya Katha – Chapter 4: Revelation of Avadhuta Gita

The Revelation of Avadhuta Gita
Dattatreya, immersed in the ocean of unique knowledge received from twenty-four Gurus, was now ready to disseminate that knowledge to the world. The experience of Advaita had been fully established in his heart, and he was eager to express that realization through words. The surrounding atmosphere was filled with peace and divinity, as if nature itself was preparing for the flow of that knowledge.
The Beginning of Advaita Knowledge
In a serene forest, under a large banyan tree, Dattatreya was seated in the lotus posture. His eyes were closed, and a divine smile graced his face. The sun's rays filtered through the leaves of the tree and fell upon his face, enhancing his radiance. Birds sang sweet melodies, and the fragrance of flowers filled the air. The scene was so enchanting that even the gods would be mesmerized.
Slowly, Dattatreya opened his eyes. His gaze held a wondrous confluence of compassion and wisdom. He looked at his disciples, who sat around him with reverence. "O dear disciples," he said in a profound voice, "today I will impart to you the essence of the knowledge I have received from my Gurus. This knowledge will lead you on the path of self-realization and help you understand who you truly are."
The Dissemination of Avadhuta Gita
Dattatreya began the Avadhuta Gita. He explained the principle of Advaita in simple and clear words. He said that the world is an illusion, and only Brahman is the truth. He also stated that the soul and Brahman are one, and one who realizes this truth is liberated from the bondage of birth and death. His words were so powerful that the flame of knowledge began to ignite in the hearts of the disciples.
By the grace of Dattatreya, the disciples began to experience Advaita. They started to understand that they are beyond the body, mind, and intellect. They also began to realize that they are indeed Brahman, who is omnipresent and infinite. Their fear and ignorance vanished, and they began to experience supreme bliss and peace. Dattatreya explained the knowledge in depth through various examples and parables, leaving no room for doubt in their minds.
The Path of Self-Realization for Disciples
Dattatreya inspired his disciples to walk the path of self-realization. He asked them to practice meditation, yoga, and satsang. He also explained that they should remain detached while living in the world. He said that they should perform their actions without attachment to the fruits of their labor. In this way, they would be freed from the bondage of karma and attain liberation.
Inspired by Dattatreya's teachings, the disciples began to walk the path of self-realization. They started practicing meditation and yoga regularly. They began to perform their actions without desiring the results. Gradually, they began to attain self-realization and experienced supreme bliss and peace. Now, Dattatreya, having imparted knowledge to his disciples, was ready for the next journey, where he had to grant a boon to Kartavirya Arjuna, which will be explained in the next chapter.
Summary of Chapter 4: Dattatreya disseminated the knowledge of Advaita through the Avadhuta Gita and showed his disciples the path of self-realization. The essence of this chapter is that we should consider the world as an illusion and seek the truth, which resides within us.
