The Birth and Knowledge of Brihaspati

The war between the Devas and Asuras was continuous. In this conflict between Dharma and Adharma, the Devas needed guidance. This guidance was to come from a wise and powerful Guru, whose birth was destined for the welfare of the Devas. This is the story of Guru Brihaspati, whose birth and knowledge illuminated the universe.

The Union of Rishi Angiras and Surupa

In ancient times, there was a radiant sage named Angiras. His brilliance was like the sun, and his penance was firmer than the Himalayas. His wife, Surupa, was as beautiful as her name suggested, but her mind was even more beautiful and serene. Both were devoted to each other, and their lives were on the path of Dharma and duty. The sound of Vedic mantras echoed in their hermitage, as if Saraswati herself resided there. Every morning, Surupa would pick flowers to worship Rishi Angiras, and every evening, they would both perform Agnihotra together, invoking the Devas. They had a desire for a child, a son who would carry forward their knowledge and brilliance.

One day, Surupa said to Rishi Angiras, "Master, I have a wish. I wish for a son who will be revered in all three worlds, who will guide the Devas and establish Dharma." Rishi Angiras smiled and replied, "My dear, your wish will surely be fulfilled. By the grace of the Devas, we will have a son who will be a treasure trove of knowledge and wisdom."

The Extraordinary Birth of Brihaspati

Time passed, and in an auspicious moment, Surupa gave birth to a divine child. This child was different from other infants. His face radiated brilliance, his eyes were filled with knowledge, and a divine aura emanated from his body. As soon as he was born, he chanted "Om," which resonated throughout the hermitage. The Devas rejoiced and showered flowers from the sky. Sage Angiras named his son "Brihaspati," which means "Great Teacher."

From Brihaspati's birth, a new hope surged among the Devas. They knew that this child would guide them and help them achieve victory over the Asuras. Brihaspati's radiance was so intense that even the Asuras were terrified. It seemed as if the Guru of the Devas himself had incarnated on Earth. He began to acquire knowledge of the Vedas and scriptures from his father Angiras, and his intellect was so sharp that he grasped everything with ease. His curiosity was never quenched, and he was constantly in pursuit of knowledge.

The Study of Vedas and Scriptures

Brihaspati's education began in the hermitage of Rishi Angiras. He deeply studied the Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads, and all the scriptures. He had a special interest in astrology, grammar, ethics, and dharma shastra. His memory was extraordinary, and he never forgot anything he read. He was completely devoted to his guru and performed every task with dedication. The talk of his scholarship and knowledge spread in all directions.

Brihaspati's knowledge was so vast and profound that he would even surprise his guru Angiras. Rishi Angiras realized that his son was an extraordinary being who would guide both Devas and humans in the times to come. He blessed his son and said, "Son, your knowledge is for the welfare of the world. You must use it to establish Dharma and walk the path of truth." Thus, Brihaspati impressed everyone with his knowledge and wisdom and moved forward towards becoming a great Guru.
