Bhasmasur Vadh Katha – Chapter 2: The Terror of Bhasmasur Begins

The Terror of Bhasmasur Begins
In the previous chapter, we learned about the origin of Bhasmasur and the indestructible boon he received from Lord Shiva. After receiving the boon, Bhasmasur's mind was filled with ego, and a desire to defeat even the gods awakened within him. He became intoxicated with his power and began to oppress innocent beings.
Invasion of Heaven
The terror of Bhasmasur's power grew so immense that he decided to invade the heavens. With his vast army, he reached the gates of heaven. Chaos erupted in the celestial garden of Nandana. Apsaras hid in fear, and celestial beings cried out for help. Indra, the king of the gods, became worried seeing Bhasmasur's power. He immediately ordered his army to prepare for battle, but an unknown fear gripped his heart.
"What kind of demon is this who possesses such immense power?" Indra asked his commander. "Can we face him? Why did Lord Shiva grant him this boon?" The commander replied, "My Lord, we will try to stop him with the might of the gods. But if the boon is true, we will have to find another solution."
Fear Among the Gods
Bhasmasur entered heaven and attacked the gods. The gods could not withstand his terrible power. Whoever Bhasmasur touched turned to ashes. A cry of distress arose in the heavens. The gods began to flee in all directions to save their lives. Indra also retreated while trying to protect the gods. The gods realized that they could not face Bhasmasur alone. Their only hope was Lord Vishnu, the protector of the universe.
The gods collectively prayed to Lord Vishnu, "O Lord, save us! Protect us from the terror of Bhasmasur. Lord Shiva has granted him such a boon that whoever he touches will turn to ashes. Now we seek your refuge." Lord Vishnu heard the prayers of the gods and assured them that he would help them. He said, "Bhasmasur's end is certain. All of you remain patient."
Attempt to Obtain Parvati
After conquering heaven, Bhasmasur's ego grew even further. He told his ministers, "I want nothing more now. I only want Parvati. I have heard that she is the most beautiful goddess. I wish to marry her." His ministers knew that Parvati was Lord Shiva's wife, but they feared Bhasmasur's wrath. They incited him to obtain Parvati. Bhasmasur set off towards Mount Kailash to get Parvati, which was about to lead to a terrible crisis. Now, it remains to be seen how Lord Vishnu saves the gods and how Bhasmasur is destroyed. In the next chapter, we will learn how the gods implore Lord Vishnu for help and what plan Lord Vishnu devises.
Summary of Chapter 2: In this chapter, we saw that Bhasmasur, arrogant with his boon, invades heaven and terrifies the gods. Upon the gods seeking refuge, Lord Vishnu assures them. Bhasmasur also desires to obtain Parvati, which further escalates the situation. From this chapter, we learn that ego leads to destruction and true happiness lies only in seeking refuge in God.
