Chapter 7 of the Bhagavad Gita — The Supreme Divinity: Realization. Krishna reveals his divine nature, omnipresence, and his role as the origin of all beings, telling Arjuna his true identity.

The Supreme Divinity: Realization

In the previous chapter, Self-Control and Meditation, Arjuna learned about the fickleness of the mind and the practices to control it. Now, in this chapter, Lord Krishna reveals His supreme form and the secret of creation to Arjuna, paving the way for his devotion. Both Arjuna's curiosity and Krishna's grace fill this chapter with knowledge.

Krishna's Divine Light: Arjuna's Curiosity

A silence had fallen upon the battlefield. A gentle breeze was blowing, and the faint sounds of soldiers could be heard in the distance. Arjuna's mind was still not at peace, even though he had heard Krishna's teachings on meditation. There was an uncertainty in his eyes, a deep thirst to know the truth. He wanted to know if Krishna was indeed who He claimed to be, the source of the supreme divinity. In the depths of his heart, he wanted to experience that power, that divine love that governs the entire universe.

Arjuna said in a soft voice, "O Krishna, you have told me about self-control, but I want to know what is the basis of this entire universe? You say you are everything; show me that form of yours which is beyond this creation. Let me experience that truth which is beyond intellect."

The Secret of Creation: Krishna's Answer

Hearing Arjuna's words, Krishna smiled. There was a wonderful peace in His smile, a light that touched Arjuna's heart. He began to describe His divine form, each word carrying a new depth. Krishna explained that He is the essence in water, the light in the sun and moon, and the 'Om' in the Vedas. He described His presence in every particle of creation in detail. He said that His illusion (Maya) is invincible, but those devotees who come to His refuge with a true heart transcend this illusion.

Krishna explained, "O Arjuna, I am the seed of this world. There is no truth greater than Me. Whatever you see is a part of My power. Those who contemplate Me without expecting the fruits of their actions are My beloved devotees. Their devotion binds Me and shows them the path to liberation." As He spoke, an ocean of compassion welled up in Krishna's eyes, and Arjuna felt that compassion in every fiber of his being.

The Importance of Devotion: The Path to the Supreme Truth

Hearing Krishna's words, Arjuna's heart was filled with devotion. He realized that devotion, more than knowledge and action, is the path to supreme bliss. Now, the need for self-control became even clearer to him. To walk the path of devotion, it is essential for the mind to be calm. Krishna described various forms of devotion, such as chanting the divine name, singing hymns (kirtan), and listening to the stories of the divine (Bhagavat Katha). At the end of this chapter, Arjuna's mind was calm and firm, ready for the next chapter, Vishwaroop Darshan, in which Krishna was to display His cosmic form. Arjuna was eagerly awaiting this wondrous sight.

Summary of Chapter 7: In this chapter, Lord Krishna told Arjuna about His divine form and the secret of creation. He highlighted the importance of devotion and explained that true devotees can attain liberation by transcending His illusion (Maya). This teaching of Krishna leads Arjuna to the realization of the Supreme Truth.
