Birth and Early Life of Bahucharaji

In the land of Gujarat, in the village of Virampur, where the grand temple of Mataji today draws devotees, there was a time when this land was groaning under the sorrow of childlessness. Bariya Dan, despite being a devout and compassionate man, remained distressed seeing his wife's barren womb. This very pain became the prelude to the birth of Bahucharaji Mata.

Bariya Dan's Penance

Silence had spread across the village of Virampur, only the flame of the eternal lamp burning outside Bariya Dan's house flickered. Bariya Dan and his wife had tried every possible means to have a child. Vaidyas, Hakims, and worship of deities, all had failed. Clouds of despair were gathering in their eyes, the slow fire of prayers burned in their hearts. Dan's face was withered, but there was a firm resolve in his eyes, an unshakeable faith that the Goddess would surely hear their call.

“O Mother Bhagavati, am I so unfortunate that I will be deprived of your grace? Will the joyous cries of children never echo in my home?” Bariya Dan prayed with tear-filled eyes. His wife also sat there, with folded hands, asking God for the boon of a child. The same question was in both their minds – when would their penance bear fruit?

The Goddess's Prophecy

One night, as Bariya Dan was engrossed in deep meditation, a wondrous light permeated within him. He had a divine experience, and he had the vision of Goddess Bhagavati. The Goddess assured him that his prayers had been heard and that a divine daughter would soon be born in his home. The Goddess also prophesied that this daughter would not be ordinary, but would be filled with divine power and would alleviate the suffering of devotees. Hearing this, Bariya Dan's heart was filled with gratitude.

The Goddess told Bariya Dan, “Your daughter will be a symbol of feminine power. She will protect righteousness, destroy injustice, and show the path of liberation to devotees. Her name will be Bahucharaji, and she will be worshipped for ages to come.” This prophecy brought new hope into the lives of Bariya Dan and his wife. They knew that the purpose of their lives had now changed.

Religious Inclination in Childhood

Time passed, and the Goddess's prophecy came true. A beautiful daughter was born in Bariya Dan's home, and she was named Bahucharaji. From childhood, Bahucharaji showed extraordinary talent and a religious inclination. She was more inclined towards devotion to God than towards play. She would sit in meditation for hours, and at a young age, she had deeply studied religious scriptures. A calm and divine aura always emanated from her face, which attracted everyone.

Child Bahucharaji would go to the temple with her mother and sing devotional songs for hours. There was a wonderful sweetness in her voice that mesmerized the listeners. The villagers began to consider her an incarnation of the Goddess and came from far and wide to seek her blessings. Even in her childhood, Bahucharaji made it clear that her life would not be ordinary. She was born for a great purpose.
