Character Introduction

Aandal: Aandal, also known as Goda Devi, is the main character of this story. She is the adopted daughter of a great saint named Vishnuchitta (Periyalvar). Her specialty was that she was immersed in the love of Lord Krishna every moment and showed the path of devotion through her hymns.

Aandal's Devotional Story – Complete Story

There was a beautiful town named Srivilliputhur in South India. A great saint named Vishnuchitta lived there, who was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. He used to make beautiful flower garlands for the Lord daily. One day, Vishnuchitta found a newborn baby girl in the Tulsi garden. He named the child Goda and raised her as his daughter.

From childhood, Goda was immersed in the love of Lord Krishna. She thought about Krishna every moment and sang hymns to Him. When Vishnuchitta made garlands for the Lord, Goda would secretly wear them and admire her reflection in the mirror. She tried to see if she was worthy of Lord Krishna. One day, Vishnuchitta saw Goda wearing the garland and became very angry. He immediately threw away the garland and started making a new one.

That night, Lord Vishnu appeared in Vishnuchitta's dream and said that He wanted the garland worn by Goda. Vishnuchitta realized his mistake and recognized Goda as a true devotee of God. From then on, Goda became known as Aandal, which means "she who has won the Lord". Aandal composed thirty hymns called 'Thiruppavai', which depict her love and devotion towards Lord Krishna.

Aandal expressed her desire to marry Lord Ranganatha (Vishnu). Pleased by her devotion, the Lord invited her to Srirangam. When Aandal reached the temple, she merged into the idol of Lord Ranganatha. Thus, Aandal completed her devotion by becoming one with the Lord.
