Attainment of Justice and Liberation

In the previous chapter, we learned how Amba was born as Shikhandi and her role in the Mahabharata war. Now we will proceed with the story of the fulfillment of Amba's vow of revenge, Shikhandi's death, and the liberation of her soul. Amba's resolve was unwavering, and her sole aim was to avenge the insult from Bhishma Pitamah.

The Mahabharata War and Shikhandi's Responsibility

The Mahabharata war was at its peak. The land of Kurukshetra had turned red with blood. Shikhandi stood with Arjuna in front of Bhishma Pitamah's chariot. In his mind, the insult of Amba, her pain, and the fire of anger towards Bhishma were blazing. He knew he had to fulfill his purpose. Seeing Shikhandi, Bhishma laid down his weapons, as he knew he could not strike a woman, even if she stood before him in the form of a man.

Arjuna, under the cover of Shikhandi, rained arrows upon Bhishma Pitamah. "O Grandfather," Shikhandi roared, "Today I will avenge Amba's insult! You rejected her, ruined her life, and today I will make you suffer the same humiliation." His words were not just war cries, but the screams of Amba's soul. Bhishma Pitamah's body was pierced by Arjuna's arrows, and he fell from the chariot.

Shikhandi's Death and Amba's Soul's Peace

After the war ended, Shikhandi's life also came to an end. According to the tales of the Mahabharata, Ashwatthama killed Shikhandi while he was sleeping at night. With Shikhandi's death, the cycle of Amba's revenge was also completed. Bhishma Pitamah was now on a bed of arrows, and Amba's objective was achieved.

After Shikhandi's death, his soul was liberated as Amba. Amba thanked Lord Shiva for helping her fulfill her vow. Surrounded by a divine light, Amba's soul began to ascend towards the sky. Her face shone with peace and contentment. Amba's soul had found liberation and merged into eternal peace. This was the victory of Amba's penance, courage, and her firm resolve to avenge her insult.
