Ayi Girinandini Lyrics

O daughter of the mountain, delight of the earth, joy of the universe, praised by the son of Nanda! Dwelling on the peak of the Vindhya mountains, consort of Vishnu, praised by Indra! O Goddess, wife of Shiva, wife of many, doer of many deeds! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 1 ||

Giver of boons to the best of gods, terrible to the terrible, crusher of the wicked, delighting in joy! Nourisher of the three worlds, pleasing to Shiva, remover of sins, delighting in sound! Anger of the demons, wrath of Diti's sons, dryer of arrogance, daughter of the ocean! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 2 ||

O Mother of the Universe, my mother, dwelling in the Kadamba forest, delighting in laughter! Residing in the highest peak of the Himalayas, in your own abode! Sweet as honey, slayer of Madhu and Kaitabha, destroyer of Kaitabha, delighting in the Rasa dance! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 3 ||

O you who shattered the heads of the enemy army, who destroyed the elephants! O you who tore the cheeks of the enemy elephants with your fierce claws, lord of the lions! With your own strong arms, you struck down and destroyed the leaders of the enemy forces! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 4 ||

O you who, in the fierce battle, destroyed the arrogant enemies and empowered the gods! O you who, with wise contemplation, are the chief of Shiva's attendants! You who, with your terrible form, are the end for wicked demons with evil intentions! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 5 ||

The celestial damsels are engaged in dancing with joy and rhythm! Smiling, adorned with the crescent moon, delighting in the arrows of Kama! Radiant as the sun, with jeweled earrings, adorning your neck, engaged in play! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 6 ||

O giver of refuge to the wives of enemies, O bestower of boons to the brave! O you who hold the sharp trident, which pierces the heads of enemies in the three worlds! With the resounding beat of celestial drums, you brighten the world with your radiant hands! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 7 ||

O you who, with your mere roar, destroyed the demon Dhumralochana and his army! O you who, in the battle, absorbed the blood of the demons, like a creeper of blood! O you who, with Shiva, pleased the ghosts and goblins by offering the heads of Shumbha and Nishumbha! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 8 ||

With your bow and arrows, in the battlefield, your limbs are adorned with jingling anklets! With golden-hued arrows and quivers, you strike down the enemies! With your divine song, you are praised by the sages, and you delight in the celestial realm! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 9 ||

O son of the king of gods, O Indra's son, O son of the celestial beings, O you who possess mountain-like strength! You are the wrestler who defeats the demons, and you delight in the dance! Praised by the songs of sages like Narada, you reside in the celestial realm! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 10 ||

O you who are adorned with a beautiful, radiant, and charming countenance! Whose face is surrounded by the moon, like the night! O you whose eyes are enchanting, like the king of bees! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 11 ||

You are engaged in the great battle, dancing with the demons! You are adorned with creeper-like movements, and you delight in the dance! You have conquered all, and you delight in the dance! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 12 ||

Your pure moon-like face is the source of all beauty! Does it not outshine the faces of the celestial damsels in Indra's city? My opinion is that, O Shiva's beloved, you are indeed pleased by my devotion! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 13 ||

O Uma, with your boundless compassion, be merciful to me, a humble devotee! O Mother of the Universe, be merciful, as you are, and grant me peace! Whatever is appropriate, O great one, do it, and alleviate my suffering! Victory, victory to you, O slayer of Mahishasura, beautiful-haired daughter of the mountain! || 14 ||
