Journey: Ahilya's Ashram

The birth of Rama had sent waves of joy through Ayodhya. Sage Vishwamitra, who had witnessed the childhood of Lord Rama, was now determined to take him and Lakshmana with him to Mithila. Their objective was to participate in the Shiva Dhanush Yajna being held in King Janaka's court, and at the same time, to awaken the divine power that was waiting for Ahilya's salvation.

Journey on the Forest Path

With the first rays of the sun, Rama, Lakshmana, and Sage Vishwamitra began their journey towards Mithila. The forest path was serene and picturesque, the sweet chirping of birds making the atmosphere even more joyful. Rama and Lakshmana, both brothers, walked behind their guru, their young faces filled with enthusiasm and curiosity. They observed every tree, every plant, and every animal with great attention, as if nature itself was teaching them something. Sage Vishwamitra, pleased to see the eagerness of his disciples, told them about the various places they encountered along the way. "Look Rama," the sage said, "this is the same forest where sages and ascetics once performed penance, and the soil here still evokes their purity."

Rama touched the forest soil with reverence and mentally bowed to those sages. Lakshmana, following in his footsteps, expressed his respect for his elder brother, "Brother, we are blessed in the company of Gurudev. We are not only gaining knowledge but also getting to see this sacred land." Rama smiled and supported Lakshmana's words, "Yes Lakshmana, this journey is a great opportunity for us."

Departure Towards Mithila

As they moved forward, the forest path became denser. The sun's heat was intensifying, but Rama and Lakshmana did not complain. Sage Vishwamitra protected them from fatigue with his yogic powers. They crossed many rivers and streams along the way. Each time, Rama and Lakshmana touched Sage Vishwamitra's feet for blessings. One day, as they were resting by a river, Lakshmana asked Rama, "Brother, why are we going to Mithila? Gurudev mentioned that a great yajna is going to be held there, but what is the real purpose of this journey?" Rama smiled and replied, "Lakshmana, whatever Gurudev does, there is a deep reason behind it. We just need to trust him."

Sage Vishwamitra heard Rama's words and praised him, "Rama, you speak the truth. The purpose of this journey is not just to participate in the yajna, but also to accomplish a great task. It is a task that has been awaited for ages."

Near Ahilya's Ashram

After many days of travel, Rama, Lakshmana, and Sage Vishwamitra reached a place where peace prevailed all around. The place was desolate and deserted; even the birds had forgotten to chirp. Sage Vishwamitra told Rama and Lakshmana that this was Ahilya's ashram, who was once the wife of Sage Gautama. He explained how Ahilya fell victim to Indra's deceit and how Sage Gautama cursed her to turn into stone. "Rama," Sage Vishwamitra said, "Ahilya has been waiting for her salvation for ages. Only by the touch of your feet can she be freed from her curse."

Rama's heart was filled with compassion. He imagined Ahilya's suffering and became determined to liberate her. He asked Sage Vishwamitra, "Gurudev, what should we do?" Sage Vishwamitra replied, "Rama, just extend your feet towards the ashram. Ahilya will be liberated by your divine touch, and peace and happiness will once again prevail in this place." Rama obeyed his guru's command and, along with Lakshmana, began to move towards Ahilya's ashram. They knew that their next step would bring about a great transformation.
